in rrr MARY A. OSBURN, OF AUBURN, NEIV YORK.
4bistum-orientata.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 659,894, dated October 16, 1900.
Application filed March 22, 1900. Serial No. 9,766. (No model.)
To tti/Z zutont t '1n/(ty concern:
Be it known that I, MARY A.OSBURN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Auburn, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dsh-Drainers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in receptacles employed in rinsing and drying dishes; and the object is to provide a utensil of the character named which will be simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, and can be used in conjunction with an ordinary dish-pan.
The invention consists in the receptacle,in combination with its improved means of support, which will be hereinafter described, and the novelty thereof particularly pointed out in the claim.
I have fully and clearly illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l isa side elevation of my device shown in conjunction with a dislrpan or other receptacle. Fig. 2 is a top view of the receptacle, showing in dotted lines that part of the support which holds the receptacle in position. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the supporting-frame. Fig. 4 is a View, partly in section, showing the means by which the parts of the frame are secured to each other.
In the drawings the reference-numeral l designates a receptacle of any suitable size adapted to receive and retain the dishes. I prefer to construct this receptacle of sheetiron or any other material in the form shown in Fig. 2 of the dra\vings,wl1erein it consists of a bottom 2 and side walls 3, 4, 5, and 6,the front one of which, G, is convex, substantially as shown. About the upper edge of the receptacle is formed a flange 7, intended to stiifen and lend stability to the side walls. In the receptacle are suitably fastened strips or rack-bars 8, which serve to hold the dishes away from contact with the bottom and allow the water to ilow freely under them. In order to allow the dirty water to pass out of the drier, I provide an opening 9 in the bottom of the receptacle. This opening is provided with a gutter or way l0 to direct the water into the dish-pan.
In order to hold the receptacle or drier at a point above the dish-pan, I provide a sup porting frame or stand 1l, which consists of end and side bars l2 13. The end bars l2 are bent downward at a point adjacent to their ends, so as to form legs 14E, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. The legs of one of the end bars 12 are made shorter than those of the other, so that the necessary tilt or inclination may be given to the receptacle to allow the water 1.o flow freely and rapidly from the outlet 9. The side bars 13 are secured to the end bars l2 by means of bolts or rivets l5 at a point adjacent to the apex of the angle of the end pieces and are then turned upward at such an angle as to conform to the side walls of the drier. The up* per ends or extremities of the side bars are bent inward,so as to project over the sides of the receptacle, and then downward, as at 16, into the interior of the receptacle a sufficienti distance to afford a means for clamping and securely holding the drier in position, substantially as shown in the drawings.
In houses where there are no sinks or like receptacles to receive and carry off waste water the utility of the device will be readily understood, since an ordinary dish-pan may be used to receive the waste Water in place of the sink.
Vhat I claim is- The combination with a dish-receiving rcceptacle,of a supporting-frame therefor, com prising end rods bent downward to form legs, and side rods having their ends bent upward and then inward to engage the receptacle, the bends of said sides resting upon the hori- Zontal portions of the end rods and secured thereto.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARY A. OSBURN.
