Description

No. 658,534. Patented Sept. 25, I900.
l. STRIPE. DEVICE FOR PERFOBATING TILES.
(Application filed Feb. 16, 1899.)
(No Model.)
\IVITNESSES Jaa/CINZL TQR BY w/wwc ATTY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IsAAo STRIPE, OF AULTMAN, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE H. B. CAMP COMPANY,
OF SAME PLAOE DEVICE FOR P-ERFORATING TILES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 658,534, dated September 25, 1900.
Application filed February 16, 1899. Serial No. 705,640. (No model.)
To. all whom, it may concern: 7
1 Be it known that I, ISAAC STRIPE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aultman, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Device for- I Perforating Tile; andIdo hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being'had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section showing the different parts arranged. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the die. Fig. 3 is a view 1 showing a finished tile. Figs. 4 and 5 are detached views of the rotary cutting blades or disks. Fig. 6 is an edge view of one of the cutting blades or disks.
The present invention has relation to devices designed for perforating tile; anditconsists in the novel arrangement hereinafter described, and particulary pointed outin the claim.
Similar numerals represent corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents a portion of the outside die, which is constructed in the ordinary manner and is held in position in the usual way. This part 0 of the device has no particular reference to the present invention, except to carry out the Object and purpose hereinafter described, and may be of any desired form or style, reference being had to the form, style, or kind of 5 tile designed to be formed.
WVithin the outside die 1 are arranged in the usual manner the inside dies 2. In the drawings three inside dies are shown; but it will be understood that the number of inside 0 dies may be varied without departingfrom the nature of the present invention. For instance, a single inside die may take the place of the three inside dies shown. As shown, the inside dies are each provided with arms, to which arms'are connected the bars 3.
Upon the bars 3 are mounted the cutting blades or disks 4, which disks may be and preferably are located and arranged as shown,
and, as shown, they are so located that as the clay is forced through or passes the die proper the arms of the blades or disks will enter the elastic clay and cause said disks to revolve, by which movement apertures are formed at intervals, as illustrated in the drawings. I have illustrated the disks or cutting-blades '55 located to form apertures upon but one side of the tile'proper; but it will be understood that they may be so located and arranged that apertures will be formed upon more than one side, if so desired, as this is a matter of judgment only as to the location and arrange ment of the revolving cutting blades ordisks.
In Fig. 4 I have illustrated a modified form of a cutting blade or disk, which consists in providing open ends 5, by which arrangement a portion of the clay is cut from the tile-body, and the portion cut is forced through the hollow ends and allowed to fall upon the inside of the tile.
It will be understood that many forms and styles of cutting blades may be employed without departing from the nature of my invention, as it will be seen that the form of the arms of the cutting-blades must correspond with the form of the aperture designed to be made in the tile.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the outer die, die or dies located within the outer die and provided with arms, a bar or bars connected to the arms of the inside die or dies, a disk or disks located upon the bar or bars having cuttingarms and located within the hollow tile and ISAAC STRIPE.
