PICTURE FRAME. (Application led Apr. 25, 1900.)
(N0 Model.)
W/T/VESSES /N VENTOI? A TTOHNEYS UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT FENTON MESSINGER, OF PHOENIX, ARIZONA TERRITORY.
PloTu RE-FEAM E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 5,502, dated August 7, 1900.
Appia' man nednprn 25, 1900.
lTo ttZZ 'LU/tom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT FENTON MnssINGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Phoenix, in the county of Maricopa and Territory of Arizona, have invented a new and Improved Picture-Frame, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of this invention is to-provide an attractive frame for pictures, by which the pictures may be arranged in a certain sequence, aifordin g amusement and instruction to persons examining them. This end I accomplish by a novel construction which enables me to mount exteriorly on the frame a picture representing the external appearance of a certain building and by manipulation of the parts to move this picture out of the sight of the observer and present a second picture representing the interior of the building shown on the first picture. This device is particularly useful for advertising purposes, since it combines in one arrangement views of the exterior and interior of a business establishment This specification is the disclosure of one form of the invention, while the claims define the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken through the lower part thereof to show the operating devices.
The body a of the frame is preferably constructed rectangular, as shown, and in the form of a box, if desired. On the front of the box a picture b is fastened or produced directly thereon, if desired. This picture is covered by two swinging leaves o, which are mounted on the box byhinges c', respectively, at their outer edges. These leaves c are capable of folding inward against the front face of the body a, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, so as to hide the picture b. A picture d is produced `in sections on the leaves c, so that when the leaves are folded inward the sections of the picture d match to show the Seria-1 No. 14,266. (No model.)
complete picture. vThe picture b represents, I
for example, the interior of a building, and the picture CZ the exterior of the building.
It will therefore be seen that these pictures picture cl is hidden from View and the picture h is presented to the observer.
For moving the leaves c I provide each leaf with a toothed sector e, which sectors are fastened, respectively, to the axes of the leaves c. These sectors are engaged by racks f, which are held slidably in proper position by guidepins g, located adjacent to the sectors. A T- lever h is fulcrumed in the body a and has the racks f connected, respectively, with two of its arms. The third arm is connected with a retractile spring t' and with a push-pin 7s. When the pin 7c is pushed in, as shown by full lines in Fig. 2, the racks f will be moved to throw the leaves c open, and when pressure on this pin `is relaxed the spring f will assert itself and return the parts, and thus close the leaves c.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A picture-frame, comprisinga body, two leaves hingedly mounted thereon, sectors connected with each leaf, racks respectively meshing with the sectors, a spring-actuated lever connected with the racks, and a pushpin connected with the lever.
2. A picture-frame, comprising a body, a leaf pivotally mounted thereon, a sector connected with the leaf, a rack engaged with the sector, a lever to which the rack is pivotally connected, and a push-pin mounted in the body and connected with the lever to transmit movement thereto.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
ALBERT FENTON MESSINGER.
