W. LANGE. WATER PLUG. (Qpplication filed June 16, 1898.)
(No Model.)
INVENT R Attorney WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
VILHELM LANGE, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
WATER-PLUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 647,848, dated April 17, 1900.
I Application filed Tune 16, 1899. Serial No. 720,862. (No model.)
T0 ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILHELM LANGE, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, residing at 41 Steinmetzstrasse, Berlin, Germany, have invented and produced a new WVater-Plug, of which the following is a specic a rim of the faucet or outlet-pipe again, the
fication.
My invention has reference to a Water-plu g, and more especially to that class of waterplugs which only allow of the efflux of water as long as the part indrawing the water actuates a handle or lever and which close automatically as soon as the handle or lever is released. An accidental waste of water is thereby absolutely prevented.
My new water-plug, as shown in the accompanying drawing, consists of asuitablyshaped box A, which at its upper part is closed by a slotted cover-plate 29. Within this slot 0 is pivoted at d a lever f g, the upper end f of which is provided with a handle or knob e, and the lower end g of which is curved forward, so that its front end lies opposite the bore of the faucet or outlet-pipe i. This curved end of the lever is surrounded by a rubber mantle 70, the upper part of which is fastened between the upper edge of the plug-box and the cover-plate slot in the cover-plate. The front part got the curved lever, with its-rubber covering, is pressed against the rim of the faucet c' by means of a stifi spring h, arranged within the slot in the cover-plate, and acts for all practical purposes like a stoppervalve, the rim of the faucet or outlet-pipe serving as a seat. 7 This spring h may be entirelydispensed with, in which case the stop of the outflow of water is effected through the water-pressure pressing the lever-arm 9 against the pipe 6.
By pressing the lever-knob forward the front part of the curved lever is lifted ofi its seat and water is allowed to pass through and out of the faucet or outlet-pipe until, by letting go the lever-knob, the stifi spring presses the front part of the curved lever against the yielding rubber covering effecting an absoand slotted as at c, the flexible mantle K in said valve-chamberhaving its free ends re tained by the plate I), the actuating-rod f passed-through said plate and pivoted as at cl, said rod served at its outer extremity with a handle 6 and having its inner portion g bent forwardly and inclosed in said flexible mantle, and a spring normally tending to keep said inclosed bent portion g pressed against the outlet, hermetically closing the same, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
'In testimony whereof I aflix my signature v in presence of two witnesses.
