town, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. My invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one form-in which I have contemplated embodying my invention; and said invention is fully disclosed in the following description and claims. I

Referring to the drawings, Figure l represents the back of a waist and skirt, showing my belt-engaging hook applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a waist and skirt attaching device consisting of two pieces of tape with three balland-socket snap-fasteners applied thereto, the middle one of which is provided with my belt-engaging hook. Fig. 3 shows the section of the attaching device which is applied to the waist. Fig. 4t is the same as Fig. 3, with the belt-engaging hook removed. Fig. 5 is a.

The objects of my invention are to provide a means of adjusting and holding the waist, skirt, and belt in relatively-proper positions laterally and vertically, of preventing gaping between the skirt and waist, of keeping the belt in proper position, and of dispensing with the use of hooks and eyes and pins or other garment cutting or damaging device for the purposes aforesaid.

D represents the retaining-plate, which is applied to the stud C before the ball-cap C of a ball-and-socket snap-fastener is putin place, thus securing said retaining plate firmly to said stud C. This retaining-plate D is provided with a circular opening D2 of sufficient size to allow the stud O' to pass through and ears D3 D4 D5, two of which, D3 D4, being on a line with the horizontal diameter of said opening D2, while the third, D5, is

on aline with the perpendicular dropped from said diameter. Y

The belt-engaging hook Ahas a keyholeshaped opening B in the lower part thereof, the circular part of this opening (t being of such a size as to admit the flange c of the ball-cap C, while the recess b, which extends upward 'fromthe circular opening @,is adapted to admit the ears of the said retaining-plate in making the belt-engaging hook A fast to the said retaining-plate D. In placing the belt-engaging hook A in engagement with the retaining-plate D the loop portion a' of the circular opening a is placed under one of the ears- D for instance-with the belt-engaging hook A in a horizontal position, in order that the slot portion may register with the ear D4 on the opposite side. Then the beltengaging hook A is pressed down so that the plane of said belt-engaging hook A is lower than the plane of the ear D4 and revolved in an upward direction, thus making the engagement complete, two of the ears-to wit, D3 D4-being on top and one, D5, underneath of the belt-engaging hook A, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 3, which it will be seen makes a firm connection.

In the modification shown in Fig. 5 the retaining-plate D is provided with supplemental ears K K', which when the engagement is made, as above described, are left in the plane with the ear D5, and therefore come underneath the shoulders et' a. These supplemental ears K K' support the belt-engaging hook A on the upper side, thus holding said belt-engaging hook A more firmly to said retaining-plate D.

In use the attaching devices for uniting the vwaist and skirt may be placed directly on the bands of the waist and skirt or may be placed on tapes, as shown, whichtapes are to be stitched to the waistbands of skirt and waist, and I have shown one attaching device to which the hook is secured and an additional attaching device consisting of a ball-andsocket snap-fastener on either side thereof.'

The auxiliary attaching devices may or may not be used, as preferred. It will be seen that when the waist and skirt are provided with my device in the manner before described the belt-engaging hook will project IOO up above the skirt-band, making it convenient for the belt When put around the Waist to engage the hook. The hook can be readily disengaged and laid aside when its use is not desired or when it is desired to remove it from one dress and attach it to another.

That I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. The combination with a fastening device for connecting a Waist and skirt, of a retaining-plate secured thereto and provided with radially-disposed ears, and a detachable belt-engaging hook provided with a circular aperture, having a recess, adapted to fit over one of said ears, whereby said hook can be placed in engagement With said retainingplate and turned to move said recess out of line with said ears, substantially as described.

2. The combination with a ball-and-socket snap-fastener having each part thereof provided With means for attaching it to a waist or skirt, of one part of said fastener being provided with radial ears, 0f a detachable beltengaging hook having a central aperture to pass over said part, and a recess extend ing radially from said central aperture to perand projections secured to said part of the fastener, in a diiferent plane from the said ears, and extending indifferent directions from said part to engage the face of said hook opposite the face engaged by said ears, substantially as described.
