BENJAMIN C. BRADLEY, OF ALLIANCE, 01110, ASSIGNOR TO THE CRYsTAL CAsE COMPANY, OF sAME PLACE.
REVOLVING SHOW-CASE.
s'PECIEmA'rIoN formingpart of Letters Patent No. 641,671, dated January 23, 1900.
Application filed March 3, 1899.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN G. BRADLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Revolving Show-Cases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, in which Figure l is a side elevation showing all the parts properly connected. Fig. 2 is a vertical section. Fig. 3 is aview showing the sections of the bracket connected together. a View showing portions of the bracket and illustrating the same detached. Fig. 5 is a detached view of one of the connecting links or bars. Fig. 6 is a detached view of one of the hand-rail connecting-arms. Fig. 7 is a View showing the outer end of one of the basearms. Fig. 8 is a view showing a portion of thecase and illustrating the glass-retaining strip removed. Fig. 9 is a view showing a portion of one of the connecting-posts and its bolt. Fig. 10 is a transverse section of the post and connecting-bolt. Fig. 11 is a detached view showing a portion of one of the posts and illustrating the cut-out portion. Fig. 12 is a detached view of the glass-retaining cap. Fig. 13is a transverse section of one of the posts, showing the cap and glass in proper position. Fig. 14 is a view showing the bottom or lower end of the spindle or shaft. Fig. 15 is a detached View of the spindlesocket. Fig. 16 is view showing a portion of the base and its cup. 7 Fig. 17 is aview showing a portion of the stationary base or frame, also showing a portion of the revolving shelfor bottom and illustrating the dust-arrester placed in proper position.
The present invention has relation to revolving show-cases; and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar numerals represent corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 repre- Fig. 4 is Serial No. 707,564. (No model.)
sents the base-arms, which arms are connected or formed integral with the cup 2, the outer ends of which arms are provided with the cushion-blocks 3, which cushion-blocks are for the purpose of protecting the counter or other article upon which the show-case proper may be placed, and also with the notches or re cesses 4, which are for the purpose hereinaf ter described. A
The center portion of the base proper is provided with the cup 2, which cup is for the purpose of providing a support for holding in proper position the supporting-block 5, which supporting-block is placed in the cup 2, as illustrated in Fig.2.
The block 5 is provided with the tapered socket 6, which tapered socket is for the purpose of receiving the tapered end 7 of the spiridle or shaft 8, which spindle or shaft is seated into the socket, as illustrated in Fig. 2.
To the outer ends of the base-arms 1 are connected the coupling-links 9, which coupling links are substantially of the form shown in Fig. 5.
The coupling-links 9 are provided with the lips or flanges 10, which flanges are for the purpose of lapping the top or upper edges of the arms 1, and thereby provide a rest or support for said links, together with the stationary frame to be connected thereto. The upper portions of the links 9 are provided with the lips 11, which lips are for the purpose of providing a support for the bottom or lower end of the stationary frame'12. V
' The stationary frame is connected to the base proper by means of the links 9, which links are securely connected to the base and to the stationary frame by means of suitable clamping-bolts or their equivalents.
To the stationary base or frame 12 are connected the bottom or lower ends of the posts 13, and to the top or upper ends of said posts is connected the top section 14,.which top section may be of the form shown, or it may be of any other desired form, reference being had to the design to give to the case proper a finished appearance.
To the shaft 8 are securely connected in any convenient and well-known manner the shelfsupporting brackets 15,which brackets correspend in number with the number of shelves, such as 16, that may be desired to be placed in the case proper.
For the purpose of providing a means for revolving the shelves 16 the hand-rail 17 is provided, which hand-rail is connected to the bottom or lower shelf or bracket, as the case may be, by means of the bars 18, and for the purpose of bringing the hand-rail in proper position to operate the shelves it is formed of greater diameter than the diameter of the outer case and the links 9 formed as shown to provide room for said hand-rail 17.
For the purpose of providing a means for securely connecting the posts to the bottom or stationary frame 12 and the upper-section 14, the clamping-bolts 19 are provided, which clamping-bolts are placed for a short distance in the top and bottom ends of the posts 13, and the cross-pins 20 passed through said posts and bolts, as illustrated in Fig. 10. The object and purpose of so connecting the posts thereto is to provide a means for using short bolts and at the same time avoiding the necessity of forming an opening through the end length of the post.
For the purpose of providing a means for connecting the glass to the outer frame proper the caps 21 are provided, which caps are U- shaped in cross-section, the concave faces of said caps fitting over the ribs 22, formed upon the posts 13.
In practice it is found that the thickness of the glass varies, and in order to compensate for such variations the U-shaped caps are provided, as it will be understood that said U -shaped caps are clamped upon the panes of glass without reference to their thickness.
For the purpose of providing a means for placing the glass in proper position and also for removing the glass the posts 13 are provided with the cut-out portion 23, which cutout portion forms a recess, so that the rear sides of the glass may be reached by the fingers, thereby providing an easy means for removing the panes of glass 23.
It will be understood that when the cap 21 is placed in proper position it will cover or hide the cut-out portions 23, thereby giving a finished appearance to the case proper.
For the purpose of preventing dust from finding its way into the case proper the lower stationary frame 12 is provided with the groove 24, which groove is for the purpose of receiving the flexible strip 25, which flexible strip is held in proper position by means of the rod or ring 26, which ring is placed in the groove in such a manner that it will clamp or hold the flexible strip 25. The flexible strip is extended inward, so as to come in contact with the bottom or lower shelf 16, as illustrated in Fig. 17.
For the purpose of providing a means for connecting the bracket-sections 2'7 and 28 together, so as to form a continuous bracket, the hooks 29, 30, and 31 are provided. The hook 31 engages the flange 32 and the hook 30 engages the frame portion orpart 33 of the frame 28, and the hook 29 engages the shoulder 34, by which arrangement the bracket-sections are securely connected together, after which the bracket-sections are connected to the top of the upper section 14 in any convenient and well-known manner.
For the purpose of holding the block 5 the lower portion or cup 2 may be provided with suitable lips, such as 35, and upon which lips the bottom or lower end of the block 5 rests.
It will be understood that by providing the notches 1 at the ends of the base-arms 1 the clamping-bolts need not be entirely removed in order to detach the links 9, but if the connecting-bolts are loosened the base can be removed.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of a stationary frame, a supporting-base having arms, notches or recesses formed in the ends of the arms, links connected to the supporting-base and to the stationary frame, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the bracket or frame sections 27 and 28, located upon the upper end of the stationary case, the section or frame 27 provided with the hook 30, the flange 32 and the shoulder 34, and the section 28 provided with the books 29 and 31 and part 33, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination of a stationary frame, the posts 13 connected to the stationary frame, the clamping-bolts 19 located as shown and said posts provided with cut-out portions 23, and ribs 22 formed upon the posts and the caps 21 located over the ribs 22, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN (l. BRADLEY.
