Mfr/1% UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIC E.
TIMOTHY J. CARMODY, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE AMERICAN PIN COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DELIVERY-TABLE FOR HOOK-AND EYE-CARDING MAcHmE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 640,743, dated January 9, 1900.
Application filed June 13, 1898. Serial No. 683,267- (No model.)
To aZZ 2071 0112 it may concern:
Be it known that I, TIMOTHY J. OARMCDY, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of Vaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented cer= tain new and useful Improvements in Delivcry-Tables for Hookand-Eye Oarding Machines, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, whereby any one skilled in the art can make and use the same.
My invention relates to the class of devices used for delivering material to be operated upon to a machine for performing the required operations; and the object of my invention is to provide a device of this class in which the material to be operated upon may be delivered to an operating-machine placed in a fixed position at the proper time and in the required quantities and the carriers or like parts for conveying such material returned to the operators to be againfilled for delivery.
To this end my invention consists in the machine as a whole, in the combination of parts, and in the details and their combination, as hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a top or plan view of a machine embodying my invent-ion. Fig. 2 is a detail view, in central vertical section, through said machine. Fig. 3 is a detail side view of the worm and gear for rotating the table. Fig. at is a detail top view of a holder. Fig. 5 is a detail side view ofthe same. Fig. 6 is a detail View in section on the line :0 m of Fig. 1, looking toward the back or away from the sewing-machine. Fig. 7 is a side view of the carrier. Fig. 8 is a detail View in cross-section through the same.
In the accompanying drawings the letter 0. denotes a worm-shaft driven from any suitable source of power and having a worm a, meshing with a worm-gear b, secured to the revolving table-shaft b. This shaft 1) is secured at its lower end in a bracket 0, secured to a base 0. The upper end of the shaft is secured to a feeding-table d, to the under side of which is secured a hub d, directly secured to the shaft and in which is formed a cone. A standard e, secured to the base a, bears on its upper end a ball-case e, cooperating with the cone on the hub on the feeding-table, balls 6 be ing located in the ball-race between the ball-.
case and cone and directly supporting the feeding-table d. This feeding-table is round and fits within a circular opening f in the filling-table f. This filling-table is divided into compartments f within which, and preferably secured to the table, are holders f Bins d are formed on the feeding-table cl, in which is located the material to be operated upon, as hooks and eyes. A receiver (i is formed on the feeding-table and consists of a space on the table located between the bins d and the outer edge of the table.
The filling-table f is enlarged, as at f,
forming at its front side a machine-table upon which is located the machine for performing the required work--in this instance, as shown in dotted outline, a sewing-machine for sewing hooks and eyes to cards. The cards are fed from one side of the machine to a deliverytrough f formed on the upper surface of the filling-table and leading from a point adjacent to the machine to the edge of the opening in the Center of the table and in position to deliver the carriers onto the receiving part of the feeding-table d.
' In the operation of the device operatives situated opposite the compartments f take material, as hooks and-eyes, from the bins d and place it on the carriers g, located on the the card is fed through a machine and the hooks and eyes sewed thereto, this card it passes down through a slot f through the filling-table f, the carriers g passing along the upper surface of the table through the delivery-trough f and onto the receiving part d of the table, from which point they are taken by the operatives and again filled with hooks and eyes in a manner before described. This delivery of the carriersto the feeding-table is caused by the feed of the machine pushing the cards along the delivery-trough In Figs. 4 and 5 a special form of holder 5 f is employed for holding the carriers while they are being filled with the hooks and eyes. This holder consists of an upright part recessed laterally, forming upward-extending arms f f Each of these arms has in its upper surface recesses 1", extending length- Wise of the holder and of a width to receive the carrier. Springs f projecting upward beyond the upper surface of the holder and outturned at their upper ends, are secured to the ends of the holder and arranged to exert pressure on a carrier placed in the recesses and retain it in place on the carrierwhile being filled.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a delivery-table or the like, in combination, a filling-table, a revolving feedingtahle, means for revolving the feeding-table, and means, including an operating-machine located on the filling-table, for delivering carriers to the feeding-table.
2. In a delivery-table or the like, in combination, a filling-table, a revolving feedingtable with bins located thereon, means for revolving said feeding-table, and means, in eluding a machine located on the filling-table for delivering carriers to the feeding-table.
3. In a delivery-table or the like, in combination, a filling-table of circular form, a
feeding-table located in a central opening in the filling-table, means for revolving the feeding-table, and means, including an operatingmachine located on the filling-table, for delivering carriers to the feeding-table.
l. In a delivery-table or the like, in combination, a filling-table of circular form, a feeding-table located in a central opening in the filling-table, means for revolving the feeding-table, bins located on the feeding-table in position to provide a clear space between the ends of the partitions between the bins and the edge of the table, and means, including an operating-machine located on the filling-table,for delivering carriers onto the feedingtable.
5. In a delivery-table or the like, in combinalion, a filling-table of circular form with compartments arranged thereahout, a feeding-table located in a central opening in the filling-table, means for rotating the feedingtable, means, including an operating-machine located on the filling-table for delivering a carrier to the feeding-table, and a delivery trough for guiding empty carriers to the feed ing-table.
-6. In a delivery-table or the like, in combination, a revolving feeding-table, means for revolving the feeding-table, a filling-table having an opening relatively located with respect to an operating-machine, and adapted to receive cards from a carrier, and means, including the feed of said operating-machine located on the filling-table for delivering carriers to the feeding-table.
