SECIFICATON forming part of Letters lPatent A1\To. 6r29,093, dated July 18, 1899.Vv
Application filed September 8, 1898. Serial No. 690,490. (No model.) Y
Be it known that I, DAW W'. SCALE, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Williamsburg, in the county of Whitley and State of Kentueky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Separable Buttons; and
I do declare the following to be a full, clear,-
and exact descriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the lart to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention has relation to separable but.
tons designed to be used on all kinds of garments where a separable button is desired.
The object of the invention is to provide a` separable button of this character which shall' be simple in construction, durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive of production and one the parts of which may be adj usted to garments of diierent thicknesses.
With these objects in view the invention' consists in certainv features of construction and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis'V a perspective view of my improved separable button, the parts being connected. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the butspring locking-bail.
In the drawings lfdenotes the base of the button, provided with a'tubular shank 2, the
bore of which is formed with annular teeth 3. 4 denotes the head of the button, consisting of two parts ab, the latter of which is soldered or otherwise secured to the hollow` stem 5, adapted to be inserted in'theshank 2 of the base. l
8 denotes a locking-bail which is inserted through the central aperture c of the section h of the head 4 before `the section a-of saidl head is secured tothe section Pins 6 are soldered to the upper end of the.` bail and' project through apertures 6' in the.
'the annular teeth 3.
' sectionb of the'head.' The section a isnow soldered or otherwise secured to the section b.' The lower end ofy the bail is provided with laterally-projecting locking-dogs 9,' that project under the edge of the -stem-5 and engage j By compressing the pins "G the locking-dogs. will be withdrawn from engagement with the teeth, thus `permitting of one section ofthe button being separated from the other section.
From the foregoing description, taken in y connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation ofthe invention will be readily understood Without requiring an extended explanation.
The device may be used as a collar or cuit' button or 'stud or as a trousers-button, and
yowing to its wide range of adjustment may be employed for many other purposes not necessary here to mention. Y
Aseparable button consisting ol' a head, and a base, the former composed of two sections aand h secured together at their marginal edges, and one section o, arched above the other l?, the other section b being provided with a hollow stem, a locking-bail inclosed within said stem and head, locking dogs formed at the lower ends of said bail, pins secured to said bail within the head and proj ecting laterally through the periphery thereof, a tubular shank on the base, and provided Withlinternal annular teeth to receive the locking-dogs of the bail, substantially as described- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses. l
