v IMPROVEMENT IN UHURNS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, O. B. STANTON, of Scott, in the county of Cortland, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chums, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making apart of this specification. I
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the churn-box, which is constructed of wood or other suitable material, in an oblong or square form, and provided with legs]; 6. The bottom of this churn-box is made semicircular, and upon which the cream is placed. The dasher is constructed of two distinct parts, which I will describe. W represents a horizontal shaft, which is provided with a series of teeth or arms, t t t, made in a triangular form. Completely encircling this shaft and arms is aneccentric frame, of four parts, having also a series of arms, m m m, which extend towards the shaft W, which the frame encircles. The four pieces composing this frame are, the two end pieces a e, (through the centre of which the axis of shaft W passes,) and two curved pieces 8 s, which extend, respectively, in a diagonal from the near to the opposite ends of the pieces e e. Upon the exterior of the churn-box there is a wl1cel,B-, provided with a crank. This wheel is placed nearer the edge than the centre of the box, and has cogs 2 on its inner periphery, which mesh into the cogs of small wheel 3 upon the end of the shaft W. Between the box and wheely is a cog-wheel, (Z, some little larger than the wheel 3 and which is secured to operate the frame 3 s. This wheel d meshes into a cog-wheel, to, between the'wheel B and churn-box, and will give about one revolution to every three that is made by the wheel g. It will beobservcd that the frame s 8 passes around the cream as well as into it, and does not revolve with near the rapidity of the shaft, by which means the globules are effectually broken, and butter formed easily and in a short space of time.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The churn-box A, with the eccentric frame .9 s, e e, and teeth m, the shaft IV, with its arms 25 t t operated by the wheels B y .13 and (Z, when constructc'd'and used in the manner substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of November, 1866.
0. B. STANTON,
