WIN DOW-SEAT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 623,675, dated April 25, 1899.
Application filed October 5, 1898. Serial No. 692,749- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY E. KNAUST, a cit-izen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVindow-Seats, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in seats; and it consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more particularly described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my complete invention as applied to a window-sill, the latter being in section; and Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same with part-s broken away.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel and simplified construction in folding seats adapted to be detachably secured to the sills of window-frames of any design and size, and is of such a nature that it will with safety support the person desirous of cleaning the window from the outside; and it consists of side brackets, the inner ends of which are provided with hooks adapted to cooperate with the inner edge ofthe window-sill, a flexible seat supported and carried by said brackets, and in other details in the construction, as will be hereinafter described.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents'the ordinary window-sill, to which my invention is readily and detachably secured. The seat is composed of two side members, each of which is composed of tubular portions 2, one end of which is provided with a hook 3, having a knob 4, which is adapted to engage with the under surface of the sill 1, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Each tubular portion 2 is provided with a thumb-screw 5,and ad j ustably received by the former is a rod 6, against which the inner end of the said thumb-screw is brought in contact for holding the several parts together. The rod 6 is provided with a vertical portion 7, and leading from the same is a horizontal portion 8, the remaining extension of said arm being bent at a right angle to the portion 8, whereby when the seat is properly adwhich are adapted to receive the hooked ends 13, located at the four corners of the seat proper, 14, which is preferably constructed of suitable textile material or netting. Hinged to the rods 6 are hooked rods 15, the free hooked ends of which are received by eyes 16, carried bythe upper ends of the side arms 10, whereby the parts are securely fastened together in an operative position.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that when the seat is not in use the same can be folded by first releasing the hooked rods 15 and afterward removing the seat 14.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A seat comprising tubular portions, hooks formed on one end of the same, rods adjustably received by the said tubular portions, thumb-screws carried by the latter and cooperating with the said rods, the said rods having eachra vertical portion '7, horizontalsupporting portion 8, and a vertical extension 9, side arms pivoted to the lower ends of the vertical extensions, hinged bars having one of their ends secured to said side arms forming a back, hooked rods hinged to the said rods, eyes carried by the upper ends of said side arms and adapted to receive the hooked ends of the said hooked rods, and a seat removably secured to said adjustable rods and side arms, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
, HENRY E. KNAUST.
