Be it known that 1, JOHN E. SALADIE',a citizen of the United States, residing at Lone Tree, in the county of Johnson and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Door- Fastener, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to door-fasteners; and the object thereof is to provide a fastener especially adapted for screen-doors for the purpose of holding the doors tightly closed to prevent the entrance of flies or other insects or the opening of the door by the wind, the

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, A designates a plate adapted to be secured to the door-frame or other suitable securing means formed intermediate its ends with the flanges B projectinglaterally from its longitudinal edges. Pivoted at one end, between these flanges,is the bolt-casing O, the same being pivoted through the medium of a pin D, passing through the flanges and ears E, formed on said casing. Movable longitudinally in the casing is a bolt F, having a stem G, movable through an opening in the end wall of the bolt-casing and formed with a longitudinally extending slot Serial No. 683,217. (No model.)

H, through which a pin I. passes, said pin being secured at its respective ends in the walls of the casing. This bolt is normally held outwardly by a spring J, coiled about the stem thereof, as illustrated in Fig. 3. v A leaf-spring K is secured at one end'between the flanges B through the medium of the pins L, placed on opposite sides thereof, and at its outer end bears against the bolt-casing and holds the same normally pressed against the attachingplate. 7

The straight inner face M of the bolt engages the door when the latter is closed and holds the same tightly closed to prevent the ingress of insects or the opening of the door by the Wind, WVhen it is desired to open the door to permit the passage therethrough of a person, the same is swung open and through its engagement with the straight face of the bolt swings the bolt-casing laterally, as illus-' .trated in dotted lines in Fig. 3, until the door passes thereby. As soon as the door has passed the bolt the leaf-spring will return the latter to its normal position, and when the door is closed the cam-face of the bolt is engaged and said bolt is retracted until the door passes thereby and is closed, when the bolt will be forced outwardly by the coil spring, thus hold ing the door closed.

From the above description it will be seenthat I have produced a very simple and efiective device for holding the door at all times tightly closed and yet permitting the same to be opened and closed when desired, the fas tener operating automatically.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

The combination with a door, of an attach ing-plate adapted to be secured to the frame thereof, a bolt-casing pivoted to said plate, a longitudinally-movable spring-actuating bolt in said casing, and a spring for holding the casing normally pressed against the plate, substantially as set forth.
