Beit known that we, CLEMENT L. V. MUND- IIENK and WILLIAM I. CHRISTIAN, citizens of the United States,residing at WestBaltimore, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mail-Pouch Fasteners; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and Ilse the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part ofl this specification.

Our invention relates to improvements in Inail-pouch fasteners, and has for its object the provision of simple and reliable means for fastening the liap to the body of the mailpouch, as will be hereinafter fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a view of the upper portion of a mailpouch, to which our fastening devices are attached. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through one of the fasteners and the mail-pouch. Fig. 8 is a detached edge View of one of the flapplates and bolt. Fig. 4 is a detached View of the main lock. Fig. 5 is a detached view of one of the covers.

A and B designate the two sides of the pouch or sack, and C is the flap, a continuation of said side B.

a designates a series of plates riveted to the inner side of the iap, and each of which has a bolt h projecting from it. c designates a similar number of plates secured to the inside of part B, near the mouth of the sack. All of these plates are connected at their up-v per. ends by hinges c.

d designates a series of sliding bars having ieXible connections fl' and movable in guides CZ", projecting from the plates c. e designates a dog pivoted at e to each of said plates and normally controlled by springs e" to throw them into engagement with the bolts b. The sliding bars d have each a pin f, which comes in contact with the said dogs when the said bars are drawn in the direction of the arrow.

This enables the bolts to enter the openings are secured by means of a lock, the bolt K ofv which engages with a notch I' in one of said bars. I

Havingdescribed our. in vention,we claim- The combination with a mail-pouch, of a series of plates hinged together, and having each a spring-controlled pivotal dog, a series of sliding bars flexibly connected and having pins adapted to engage with said dogs, a series of plates attached to the flap of said pouch and each having a bolt to engage with a respective dog, and a series of springs to press said bolts outward when the latter are released by the dogs, as herein shown and described.
