IMI'ROVBMENT IN POCKET KNIVES.
TO ALL` WHOM IT MAY CONCERiN:
Be it known that we, GEORGE KAY and JOSEPHKAY, of Esopus, in the county of Ulster, and State of'New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pocket Knives and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying dra-wings, 'forming a part of this specification.
The4 present invention consists in a novel manner'of securing the spring or springs forholding'the bladesof a pocket knife in position, either open or closed, whereby the cost of manufacture is greatly decreased, and a much more efficient knife produced, as will be obvious from the following detail description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying plate of drawings, in whiche Figure 1 is a view of the inside of one of the side plates or pieces of the knife handle, showing the blade spring in connection therewith; and l Figure 2, a cross-section through the handle of the knife, taken in the direction of its length.

We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent-7- The arrangement of the bent spring B between the rivet a and flange b, in combination with the side plates A A, constructed and operating inthe manner and for the pnrposepherein specied.
