MOVABLE-TOP WRITING-DES K.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 606,090, dated June 21, 1898.
Application filed November 26, 1897. Serial No. 659,794. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that'we, JACOB M. SOHUNCK and ANTON L. ZENDER, citizens of the United States, residing at Oelina, county of Mercer, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Desks having Movable Tops, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a desk With the improved movable top. Fig. 2 is a partial section of thesame.
A denotes the movable top of the desk.
B B denote supporting antifriction-rollers. These rollers havejournals'with bearings in the frame of the desk and in posts secured to said frame.
O O are rollers supported upon posts E and adapted to rotate upon rails D when the top is moved.
D D indicate rails fined to the top and grooved underneath to rest upon and embrace the wheels or rollers B.
The rollers O serve to hold the top and its rails D upon the rollers l3, and by these de-.
vices the movement of the top is made smooth and certain and held in proper relation to the desk-body even though moved partly off from it, as indicated in Fig. 2. v
E E denote the above-mentioned posts fixed to the frame of the desk and extending up above the rails D. v
Practically the entire upper part of the desk can be uncovered and that by moving the top endwise and in either direction, and these movements can beeffected without compelling the user of the desk to leave his seat. It is preferred to make the Whole top movable, one advantage being that in any desk provided with such top it can be ordinarily moved in one direction without obstruction by an adjacent Wall or other obstructionas, for example, if it be situated in a corner of a room. The invention, however, comprises a top supported as hereinset forth and movable endwise, Whether such top is adapted to cover the entire desk or not.
WVe are aware that desk-tops have been sup plied with rails and movable book-supporting platforms, and also that desk-tops have been made movable toward their front, and such constructions are not herein claimed.
Having described our invention, We clai 1n- 1. In combination with a desk, the top A, the supporting-rollers B and means for holding the top upon said rollers, said top being movable endwise in either direction to uncover the desk, substantially as described.
2. In combination with a desk the top A,
the supporting-rollers B and means for hold-.
ing the top upon said rollers, comprising rollers O supported on the desk and bearing upon a part connected to the top, said top being movable endwise in either direction touncover the desk substantially as described. I
3. In combination with a desk, the top A, the supporting-rollers B and means for holding the top upon said rollers, comprising rollers O supported on the desk and bearing upon a part connected to the top, said part consisting of rails D and said top being movable endwise in either direction to uncover the desk substantially as described.
