SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 605,537, dated June 14, 1898.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH B. CARMIOHAEL,
a citizen of the United States, residingat Bonita, in the county of Montague and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insecticides; I and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' My invention relates to an insecticide compound and one that is particularly intended for the destruction of ants and the like burrowing insects; and the object is to provide a compound for effectually extermin ating this class of vermin.
To this end my invention consists in the combination of the ingredients hereinafter more fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In preparing my insecticide compound I take cyanid of potash, one ounce; spirits of camphor, one-half ounce; benzin, one-half ounce; turpentine, three ounces; sulfuric ether, twoidrams; oil of sassafras, one half ounce; oil of spike, one-half ounce; water, sufficient quantity to make one pint. The ingredients are added in the order named above and the whole thoroughly mixed.
The manner of using the compound is as Serial No. 672,071. (No specimens follows: First dig a hole about ten or twelve (12)'inches square and aboutas deep over the ant-bed. Then in two or three days, or as soon as the ants open up an exit in the hole that has been excavated,'saturate apiece of cotton-waste about four (4) or five ('5) inches in diameter with the compound and place it over the exit-passage. Then cover the saturated cotton with earth and pack the ground firmly to prevent the compound evaporating, so that the fumes or gases from the compound will only escape through the passage-way and permeate the bed or nest and effectually exterminate'the occupants.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
An insecticide consisting of cyanid of potash, camphor, benzin, turpentine, ether, oil of Sassafras, oil of spike, in about the pro portions hereinbefore set forth.
