BOTTLE-STOPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 603,034, dated April 26, 1898.
Application filed July 15, 1897.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Josnr BERNEIS, merchant, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Langenbielau, Silesia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention consists of a stopper for bottles, flasks, and the like by means of which an absolutely air-tight closure is effected, and in order to render the present specification more easily intelligible reference is had to the accompanying drawings,in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the stopper and its rubber casing; Fig. 2, a similar section showing one ring placed around the casing; Fig. 3, a similar section with the upper part of the casing turned down over the neck of the bottle, and Fig. i a similar section taken through the neck of a bottle with the closure properly effected.
The stopper a is of any suitable material and is placed in an india-rubber casing or bag, said casing or bag extending a certain distance above the stopper in the form of a sleeve at c. A ring 6, of rubber or other material, Fig. 2, is then placed around the casing at a point just above the stopper inclosed. The

The upper edge of the casing or bag is provided with a thick ring d, and above this ring a rubber ring 6 is passed over the stopper and bottle-neek and lies in the space between the ring (Z and the rim of the bottle-neck n. A second ring e is also passed over the stopper and presses the bag or easing against the stopper above the bottle-neck. The above-described closure is absolutely air-tight and may be easily sealed by means of the rings e e, which may be connected by means of a seal and cord or the like.
I claim as my invention In a bottle-closure the combination of a rubber cap having a closed end for insertion into the bottle, a separate cork or stopper placed in the said end, a ring around said cap at a point immediately above the stopper, a thick upper rim to the said cap and rings e and e to tighten the turned down upper part of said cap above and below the bottle-neck bead,
substantially as described.
