HERMAN C. FUHLMANN, OF ELIZA, ILLINOIS.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 602,156, dated April 12, 1898.
Application tiled November Z7, 17896. Serial No. 613,599. (No model.) i
To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERMAN C. lUriLivrANN,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Eliza, in the county of Mercer and State of Illinois, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has reference to a novel construction in a bottle and sealing-stopper therefor, the object being to provide a device of this character whereby the reuse of the same after being once opened is impossible.
The invention consists in the features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed.
The accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, is a central vertical section of a bottle and stopper constructed in accordance with this invention.
Referring now to said drawing, l indicates the neck portion of a bottle, which is provided exteriorly near its upper end with a groove 2. Otherwise the bottle is of ordinary construction. The bottle is to be sealed by the cork 3 in the usual manner, while over the mouth of the bottle is a sealing-stopper 4. The said sealing-stopper is provided with an opening or recess to receive the end of the neck of the bottle, and within this recess is a spring-finger 5, that is adapted to enter the groove 2 in the neck of the bottle when the said stopper is in place thereon. Said springn ger normally projects into the recess in the stopper, so that after the bottle is lledwand the cork inserted this stopper can be forced down over the neck of the bottle until the spring-nger arrives at the groove, where- ,I upon it yenters the same and firmly locks the [stopper thereon.
Said stopper should be made of light glass, while the bottle is of comparatively heavy glass, so that when it is desired to open the bottle it is necessary to break. the sealing-stopper, after which the cork can be removed in the usual manner.
It is obvious that a bottle of this description cannot be reused without this fact being detected, owing to the absence of the sealingstopper.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with the neck of a bottle having Yan annular groove, of a frangible cap provided with a socket adapted to receive the said neck, said cap being also provided with a recessopening into said socket and a spring secured within said socket and'having an arm arranged within said recess, the lower end of said spring being bent inwardly to engage said groove, substantially as described.
2. The combination with the neck of a bottle having an annular groove, of a frangible cap provided with a socket to receive said neck, said cap being also provided with a vertical recess opening into said socket, a spring secured in said socket having a downwardlyprojecting arm arranged within said recess, the lower end of said arm being bent inwardly to engage said groove, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
p HERMAN O. FUHLMANN.
