TOOTH-EXTRACTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 6,011, dated January 9, 184:9'. y i
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, ENooH OsoooD, of Bangor, county of Penobscot and State of Maine, have invented a new instrument for extracting teeth, which I call Osgoods Pain- Preventing Tooth-Extractor; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description.
The nature of my invention consists in so adjusting an instrument as to secure certainty in the operation of extracting teeth and of preventing pain by protecting' the surrounding parts from injury.
To enable others skilled in the art, to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I make use of any of the common fulcrums, handles and shanks now in use. The fulcrum is in two parts-the part marked CZ is that into which the shank enters. This part of the ulcrum el is quite concave as seen at letter e Figure 3 the object of which is to allow the tooth at the instant from the socket to slip into the concave of the fulcrum. The ulcrum is held up in itsy place by its bearings upon other teeth andthe convex portion of the ulcrum bears upon the the concavity of the fulcrum. See Fig. 3. y
The otherr part of the Julcrum letterv g, is connected with the part markedd by a screw or rod passing through them, the part cl playing within g as seen at Fig. 1 letters l g. The part of the compound fulcrum marked g is to rest upon the teeth and gums-the horns to prevent the fulcrum from slipping down and the sides and bottom to protect the gums and parts exposed. The hooks used are like those generally'employed with the exception of one which is straighter and thinner at the point, for the purpose `of extracting sunken roots of teeth.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent'is- The compound fulcrum consisting of parts l g and d Fig. l arranged and constructed inv the manner and for the purpose described.
