Be it known that I, ALBERT STARR BEST, a citizen of the United States, residing at New v York, in the county and State of New York,

` can be constructed so as to simulate a buckle.

Referring to the accompanying` drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view showing the parts disengaged. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section showing the parts in engagement.

In the drawings, A represents a strap or band of cloth or other suitable m aterial affixed to one side of a placket of a garment, such as the lower ends of knee trousers, provided with a plate B, having openings C C near its ends, through Which the bandv or strap passes.

At D, I provide teeth, which afford means and act as retainers to the band or strap and resist the pull of same when in position in use.

Affixed to the plate B beyond the teeth D and centrally located as regards the strap or band is the female member E of the ballsocket fastener, the opening being beneath the plate B. Upon the opposite side of the placket I affix theother member or stud F of the ball-and-socket .fastener and so arrange it as to be in the same central line as the member E. It will be seen by means'of this arrangement that I am enabled, through the instrumentality of the retaining device D and the openings C C, to secure any desiredand fixed length of the band A and provide means for altering its length fromtime to time, and in combination With this form a buttoner for the ordinary usage of fastening or releasing Without interfering with the band or strap.

As shown in Fig. l, I prefer to employ two sets of fasteners E F, one being arranged immediately above theother. By this means the simulationvof the buckle is more easily maintained, as there Will be no tendency to any side slipping or twisting. In addition a stronger and better article is secured. It will.

be seen also that the strap or band conceals just sufficient of the plate B to give the structure the appearance of a buckle and that the* fastening devices provide means of quick attachment and detachment, thus avoiding the Vdrawbacks of a real buckle.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A garmenthaving a placket therein, and a strap attached to one edge thereof, the strap carrying a plate having a socket-opening on its under face and a longitudinal slit extending across said plate near each end thereof, the strap `passin g through said slots and over the plate and adjustable therein and concealing the socket-piece, the opposite edge of the placket being provided With a complementary ball or stud arranged to interlock with the socket, as and for the purpose set forth.
