Description

J. D. PARROTI Churn.
N0. 59,637. Patented Nov. 13, 1866.
Ens. Phnmuuw n her Washingtom D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J. D. PARROT, OF MORRISTOi/VN, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59,637, dated November 13, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. D. PARROT, of Morristown, Morris county, State of New Jersey,
have invented a new and Improved Churn;
and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents a longitudinal vertical section of this invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal section of one of the sides of the tub in a larger scale than the previous figure, theline 0050, Fig. 2, indicating the plane ofsection.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to an improvement in that class of churns in which the tub is connected to a pendulum and suspended in such a manner that an oscillating motion can be imparted to it, whereby the churning operation is effected.
The invention consists in the arrangement of a stirrup, the side pieces of which fit into suitable guides on the sides of the tub, and which is provided with gudgeons that have their hearings in suitable boxes, in combination with the tub;and pendulum, in such a manner that said tub can be readily taken down and cleaned without disturbing the stirrup and pendulum and a durable and convenient implement is obtained.
The operation of churning is facilitated by a slatted bulk-head extending transversely across the interiorof the tub.
A represents a frame, made of wood or any other suitable material, and provided with two journalboxes, a, which form the bearings for the ends or gudgeons I) of the stirrup B. This stirrup is made of iron or other suitable material, and its sides are made to fit into suitable guides o, (see Fig. 3,) which are secured to the sides of the tub O. The bottom of this tub is curved or made in the form of a segment, and when said tub is in working position it rests upon the stirrup B, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. From the middle of said stirrup is suspended the pendulum D, and by imparting an oscillating motion to this pendulum the tub is caused to oscillate, and the operation of churnin g is effected with ease and convenience.
In the interior of the tub are arranged two open-slatted bulk-heads, E, which extend transversely across said tub, and if an oscillating motion is imparted to the pendulum and tub the cream contained in the latter is dashed against the bulk-heads, and the formation of butter is facilitated.
A cover, F, gives access to the interior of the tub, and it it is desired to clean said tub it can be readily lifted off without disturbing the stirrup, and after having been cleaned it can be replaced with ease and facility.
By these means the operation ofchurning is materially facilitated, and a churn is obtained which is durable, not liable to get out of order, cheap, and very easily operated.
What 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the tub G, stirrup B, pendulum I), bulk-heads E, and frameA, when arranged and operating in the manner and for the purpose herein described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 28th day of February, 1866.
J. D. PARROT.
