SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 592,583, dated October 26, 1897.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known thatI, CHARLES R. EADS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Como, in the county of Panola and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Screen Scoops or Shovels; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to a novel form of screen scoop or sho vel, and more particularly to thatclass employed for removing gravel and foreign matter, as well as unslaked I lumps from the lime used in making mortar;

and the object is to provide a simple, convenient, and effective implement or tool for this purpose.

To this end the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the several parts of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings the same reference-characters indicate the same parts of the invention.

Figure l is a perspective view of the scoopscreen embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section.

l represents the handle, which is fixed to the tubular socket 2 of the scoop proper, which is represented by the numeral 3, and itis provided with a reticulated bottom 4, formed with a solid Sheet-metal flange 5, extending along the two sides of the bottom and across the back 6, to which the socket is fastened.

These guards serve to take up the Vhile the device has been described withv reference to the screening of lime, it is also a very convenient implement for separating dust and other foreign matter from loose scattered grain about the premises where it is handled, and it will also be found to be useful for cleaning grain about the barns, cribs, granaries, and corn-shellers on a farm.

Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-

As an improved article of manufacture, a screenscoop, formed with the reticulated bottom 4, the contiguous side and back flange 5 6, the integral wire guard 7, extending above the reticulated bottom, and its diverging lower portion 8 8, extending longitudinally below said bottom and the sheet-metal protector 9, encompassing the forward edge 0f the bottom l and the contiguous portions of the guard 7 8 8 substantially as shown and described.
