Description

Nrrnn STATES ATENT FFICE.
FRANZ RING, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
TRESTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 592,574, dated October 26, 1897.
Application filed May 11, 1897. Serial No. 636,071. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANZ RING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of h ultnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trestles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation to trestles; and the object is to provide a novel bracket and means whereby the supporting-legs may be adjusted with reference to the horizontal beam to raise or lower the beam, as occasion may require; and to this end the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved trestle. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the beam, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the bracket.
In the drawings, 1 denotes the horizontal beam, and 2 the diverging supporting-legs. These legs are connected to the beam by brackets 3, consisting of an attaching-plate 4 and the box portion 5, hinged together by the pintle 6. The attaching-plate is adapted to be secured to the beam, and the box portion, with its side flanges, is adapted to receive the diverging leg. The side flanges are connected by cross-bars 9, having bolt-openings 10, through which and the base of the box extends a clamping-bolt 11 for the purpose of permanently attaching the legs to the box.
The legs at each end of the trestle are connected by a cross-bar 12, having a turnbuckle connection 13 13. This construction enables me to adjust the trestle vertically to suit the conditions required.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat cut, is
1. A leg socket or bracket for trestles, consisting of the attaching-plate, the box portion hinged at the upper edge thereof, and having its side flanges extending to the upper edge of the attaching-plate, and the cross bars having the central bolt-holes, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination with the horizontal beam. and diverging legs of a trestle, of brackets consisting of the attaching-plates secured to the horizontal beam and of a box pivoted to the attaching-plate, and having cross-bars with'bolt-openings, bolts extending through the bars, the diverging legs, and the bottom of the box for securing the legs in position,
. and means connecting each set of legs at each end of the trestle for adjusting the legs of each set toward and away from each other, whereby the horizontal beam may be lowered or elevated, as occasion may require, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANZ RING.
. Witnesses:
H. T. GRIs'r, GEO. R. KROHMAN.
