As soon as the speed of the engine increases by the escape of liquid from the delivery in the usual Way the governor closes the supply-cock, shutting off the actuating fluid from the piston. The spring-pressure now forces the piston back, as the fluid escapes from the cylinder through the small escapeopening until the by-pass valve is closed.
I claim as my invention 1. In a pumping-engine, the combination with the delivery havingaby-pass and a valve controlling said by-pass, of a cylinder and piston whereby said valve is actuated, and a speed-governor whereby the admission of the actuating fluid to said cylinder and piston is controlled in such manner that said valve is opened when the speed falls to a certain point and closed when the speed rises above such point, substantially as set forth.
2. In a pumping-engine, the combination with the delivery having a bypass, of a valve controlling said by-pass, a valve-actuating piston and cylinder, a spring tending to seat said valve, and a speed-governor whereby the supply of the actuating fluid to said cylinder is controlled, substantially as set forth.
3. In a pumping-engine, the combination with the delivery havinga by-pass, of-a valve controlling said by-pass, an actuating-piston connected with said valve, a cylinder in which said piston is arranged, a spring bearing against said piston and tending to seat said valve, a conduit for actuating fluid opening into the cylinder and provided With a cock, and a speed-governor connected with said cock, substantially as set forth.
