Description

(No Model.)
D. E. MORGAN; BEDOLOTHES HOLDER.
No. 590,401. Patented Sept. 21,1897.
minewwean- Ina/822302 '%mw- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID E. MORGAN, OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA.
BEDCLOTHES-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart Of Letters Patent NO. 590,401, dated September 21, 1897.
Application filed January 6, 1897. Serial No. 618,148. (No model.)
T0 to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID E. MORGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Muscogee and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedclothes-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a clamp or holder, and particularly to a spring-holder, for bedclothing; and the object of the invention is to provide a spring device for grasping and holding bed spreads or covers in place.
A further object of the invention is to provide a spring-holder with pointed projections to pierce an article desired to be held in place by the holder.
Other objects and advantages accruing from my improved construction will hereinafter be more fully disclosed in the specification and claims to follow.
The invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a holder constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of my holder closed. Fig. 3 is an elevation of a modified form of holder. Fig. 4 is anelevation of a further modification.
The same numeral references denote the same parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
The holder consists of a single piece of wire of suitable size and strength, which is bent centrally into a coil 1, forming a spring, and also for a loop for suspending or attaching the holder. From the spring-coil 1 the wire is extended downwardly and outwardly to form springarms 2, having shoulders 3. The arms 2 terminate in coils 4, formed by twisting the wire. The extreme ends 5 of the wire are pointed or sharpened and are bent at right angles to the coils 4 and project from the latter at a different point on one coil from that on the other coil, so that the points 5 stand one out of the plane of the other and will not interfere with each other or with the coils 4, but will register with the openings of the coils, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. An S-shaped loop or keeper 6 is provided and is adapted to slip over the shoulders 3 to lock the spring-arms together.
Referring to the modification shown in Fig. 3, the arms 8 extend substantially straight from the large coil 9 to the loops 7, and are pulled apart to have the points 10 pierce an article, said points being carried together by spring tension of the coil 9.
In the form shown in Fig. 4 the arms 11 project from a single twist 12 and terminate in rounded ends 13, a link 14 being provided to lock the arms together.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A holder, consisting of a single piece of wire bent to form a central coil, arms depending from the coil and terminating in coils, the ends of the wire being pointed and bent toward each other at right angles to the terminal coils, as set forth.
2. A holder comprising a single piece of .wire bent to form a central coil, arms depending from the coil and terminating in coils, the ends of the wire projecting toward each other from the said arms, as set forth.
3. A holder, comprising a single piece of wire bent to form a central coil, arms diverging from the said coil, and terminating in coils, a shoulder in each arm intermediate the central coil and the terminal coils, pointed ends projecting toward each other from and at right angles to the said terminal coils and an S-shaped keeper adapted to slide over the said shoulders to lock the arms in closed or clamped position, as set forth.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
DAVID E. MORGAN.
