AUGUST KROLIJ, OF LEOPOLIS, "WISCONSIN.
STOVEPlPE-CAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,079, dated J une 8, 1897.
Application filed D mber 12, 1896. Serial No. 615,521. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, AUGUST KROLL, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Leopolis, in the county of Shawano and State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe-Caps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appcrtains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to chiinney-cowls. Its object is to provide an improved chimneycowl.
The invention consistsin certain uovelfeatures of construction, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of my chimney-cowl, and Fig. 2 is a central vertical section.
A base-plate 1, adapted to lit to the roof, is provided with a sleeve 2. A hood 3, having vents 4, protected hyears 5, is mounted to slide upon said sleeve 2. Inwardly-hent tongues 6 project from the lower edge of the hood 3. These tongues are so formed as to leave openings for ventilation between them and so bent as to hold, by their friction against the sleeve, the hood in any position on the sleeve. A pipe 7 extends to the top of the hood 3 and is attached thereto. The pipe 7 at its lower end is adapted to slide within the sleeve 2. An air-space is preferably left between the sleeve and the pipe. A
cap 8, of any one of the well knownfornis, is
used to protect the upper end of the pipe from falling rain or snow. As will be seen in the accompanying drawings, there is an air-space between the sleeve and the hood and an air-space also between the pipe and the hood.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a chimney-cowl, the combination with a base-plate, of a sleeve attached thereto, a ventilated hood mounted to slide thereon, and a section of pipe attached to the hood and telescoping inside the sleeve.
2. In achiinney-cowl, the combination with a base-plate, of a sleeve attached thereto, a ventilated hood mounted to slide thereon, a section of pipe attached to the hood and moving therewith, and a cap attached to said pipe.
3. In a chimney-cowl, the combination with a base-plate, of a sleeve attached thereto, a hood provided with covered vents and mounted to slide on the sleeve, projecting tongues, having openings between them, adapted to engage said sleeve and hold said hood in any desired position, a pipe adapted to slide within said sleeve, and a cap carried by said pipe.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AUGUST KROLL. Vitnesses:
A. GOHRMANN, FREND SACK.
