SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 581 ,644, dated April 27, 1897.

Be it known that 1, JOHN A. ADAMS, of Salyersville, in the county of Magotlin and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churns; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
This invention relates to churns; and the object thereof is to provide mechanism of simple and improved form for operating a double or compound dasher.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts fully described hereinafter and claimed, and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved mechanism. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view. Fig. 3 is a plan View, the casingtop being removed. Fig. 4 is a detail view of one of the dashers and slide for operating the same.
The frame consists of base A, adapted to be secured by screws B to any churn top or cover, the side uprights O, the central upright D, arranged between and faced at right angles to uprights (J, and the top or cap piece E. Uprights C are formed with vertical parallel grooves F on their inner faces, the grooves occurring on either side of central upright D, and arranged to slide vertically in these grooves are heads G, one on each side of piece C, the upper ends of the heads being connected by cord H, working over grooved pulley I, suitably journaled in opening D in the upper end of piece D. Each head G carries a projecting handle J for conveniently reciprocating the same.
K are the dashers secured to the lower ends of stems L, which project through openings in base A and which are secured at their up upright D, thus preventing the heads from moving farther upward in the slideways, as will be readily understood. Several of these openings are provided that the limit of movement may be varied as may be desired.
Thus a very simple and positively-operating double-dasher mechanism is provided which may be applied to most any form of churn-body or cream-receptacle.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination of a frame, two slideways formed therein, a head adapted to reciprocate in each slideway,an elevated pulley, a cord working thereover and secured at its ends to the heads, and a dasher adapted to be actuated by each head, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of vertically-grooved and separated uprights O, upright D arranged therebetween, a pulley journaled in the upper end of upright D, heads slidable vertically in the grooves of uprights C on either side of upright D, a cord arranged over the pulley and secured at its ends to the heads, and a dasher operated by each head, substantially as shown and described.
