Description

(No Model.)
No. 579.653. Patented Mar. 30, 1897.
WITNESSES ATTORNEY.
NITED STATES HENRY W. PITZ, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
PURSE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 579,653, dated March 30, 1897.
Application filed October 29, 1896. Serial No. 610,450. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY W. PITZ, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Purses, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a purse of novel construction, as will be hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 represents a rear view of a purse embodying my invention in open condition. Fig. 2 represents a section on line 00 as, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a plan view of the blank from which the purse is formed. Fig. 4. represents a section on line y y, Fig. 1, the cover, which is open in said Fig. 1, being, however, shown closed in said Fig. 4.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a purse, which consists of the side flaps B, the front 0, the back 0, and the cover D, said cover having on the sides thereof the flaps E, which are continuous of the side flaps B and so adapted that when the purse is opened the cover D and side flaps E form in a measure a spout for pouring out the contents of the purse.
F designates a fastening on the back of the purse, the same having spurs G, which pass through the side flaps B and the back 0, thus connecting said parts, it being noticed that when the cover B is closed it is engaged by the fastening F, for which purpose said cover is provided with the eyelet H, which occupies the post J of the fastening. It will also be 7 seen that the portions K of the sides E, which are adjacent to the sides B, are folded over the edge of the back 0 and doubled on the contiguous portions of the sides B, thus closing the sides of the purse at what may be termed the top when the cover is down, so that the escape of coin at the upper corners of the body is prevented.
In carrying out my invention I take the blank L and formthe same of substantially elliptical shape, as at M, and the wing N, which projects from one end of said part M.
I then crease or score the parts along the lines P Q R S T. The part N is now folded up, forming the back 0. The parts P Q are folded over said partN and the parts S, forming the side flaps B. The parts S are folded over the lines S and parts Q folded on the parts P along the lines Q, after which the part L, with its folded sides S, is turned down, thus closing the body of the purse.
In order to reinforce the back 0 at the place of occupation of the spurs G, I secure to the said part B the piece of material U, pass the spurs through the same and clench them thereon, the effect of which is evident.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A purse consisting of the back 0, the sides B, the cover D and flaps E on said cover, said flaps E beingfolded with the tops of the sides B partly over the adjacent portions of the sides B as at K and said cover with said flaps E being adapted to fold on said back C, and side flaps B which are secured together.
2. A purse having a back, sides, cover, and fastening for said cover, said fastening having spurs which are passed through said sides and back and secured thereto.
3. A purse having a back, sides and cover, the same being formed from the blank L, composed of the body M, the wing N, with the score-lines P, Q, R, S, T, and the parts P, Q and S.
4. A purse formed of a blank of the shape set forth having the score-lines T, P, R, R, and S, S, as shown forming wing N, the parts P, P, Q, Q, S, S, and L, said part N being adapted to be formed on the part L forming the back 0, the parts P, Q being folded on the parts L, S, the parts P forming the side flaps B, and the parts S, Q being folded on the part L forming the flaps E, said flaps E with the upper part of the part L forming the cover D.
HENRY IV. PITZ.
