SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 577,984, dated March 2, 1897. Application filed January 22, 1896. Serial No. 576,380. (No model.)

Beit known that I, FRANK HOROVITZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State f New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Table and Checker-Board, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

The object of this invention is to provide a combined table and checker or chess board, a further object being to provide a device of this class which may be employed as a checker or chess board at any time, or which may be used as an ordinary table, and which is provided with a sliding drawer or drawers in which checkers or chessmen may be placed and which are also adapted to retain the counters and other and similar articles; and with these and other objects in View the invention consists in the device hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following speciiication, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure lis a plan View of myimproved com. bination-table and checker and chess board, showing also the drawer with which the same is provided partially withdrawn Fig. 2, a side view thereof, and Fig. 3 atransverse section of the upper part of a table.

In the practice of my invention I provide a table A, which is preferably rectangularl in form and also preferably square, and said table is supported by means of legs B, but two of which are shown, and beneath the table A is placed a sliding drawer D, which is preferably provided with an inner compartment d and two outer compartments d2 and d3,which are shown in dotted lines in Figs. l and 2, and these outer compartments d2 and cl3 are provided with a cover d4, and formed in the side of one of said compartments cl2 is a pivoted door C17, and this compartment is adapted to serve as a safe to contain money or other articles of value, and the door Z7 may be provided with a'lock or operated in any desired manner. The other compartment d3 is provided in practice with a music-box of any desired form or construction. The drawer D is provided with projecting knobs d5 d6 to serve as handles therefor. I also form in the table A an opening G, which isA preferably square in form and in which is pivoted a board II, which is exactly of the same form and size, and said board is pivoted in said opening at the opposite sides thereof by means of pins h, on which it is free to revolve on said pivots.

The surface of the table G is divided into blocks in the manner of a checker or chess board, and the drawer D, as hereinbefore stated, is adapted'to receive the checkers or chessmen, and the operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. The door Z7 in the side of the drawer D or the compartments d2 thereof may be provided with a lock, if desired, and this compartment d2 will, as will be apparent, serve as a receptacle for the checkers, chessmen, cards, or any other articles, and it will also be apparent thatkthe board G may be used for other purposes than for a checker and chess board, and other games may be played thereon.
