Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEETcE.
SIMON GOLDSTONE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,702, dated September 4, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMON GOLDSTONE, of Prussia, now residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Caps, Snc.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ot' the sanie, reference being had to the accompaii yin g drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists in formingtwo series of eyelet-holes, one through the back of the cap, opening from the outside into the space c, between the body D and the band B, and the other opening from theiiiside of the cap through the band B into the same space, c.
On reference tothe accompanying drawings, which forin part of this specification, Figure l is a vienr of the exterior back and the interior front of the cap, showing the eyelets a La b b b, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the several views.
Through the body of the cap A a series of holes are formed opening into the space c. Between the body and the band B eyelets a a ai, &c., are fixed in said holes. Similarholes are formed through the band B, at the front ofthe cap inside, opening into the saine space c, and similarly fitted with eyelets b b b, Src. It will be readilyT seen that the air is caused by the eyelet-holes to circulate freely in and out over the head, keeping it cool and free from perspiration. At the same time the air circulating in the space c passes through the eyelets b b b, Sac., to the forehead, carrying off and diminishin g the perspiration caused by the band B bearing on the forehead.
Between the band and the body of the cap a lining of oil-silk is inserted, to prevent the perspiration from soaking'into and soiling the body. As the perspiration drips through the front eyelet-holes it settles on the oil-silk, from which it can be readily wiped.
IVhat I claim as iny invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A cap having a series of eyelet-holes through the back, opening from the exterior into the space contained between the body and the band, and series of eyelet-holes through the band, opening from the interior of the cap into the same space, and having an oil-sill; perspiration-shield, the whole arranged and operating with respect to each other substantially as is herein specified and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto sign my naine to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SIMON GOLDSTONE.
