ROLLER OR SLIDING DOOR HOLDER.

S PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 562,470, dated J une 23, 1896.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DEMAS H. JACKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Adams, in the county of Ilillsdale and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Roller or Sliding Door Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in rolling and sliding doors, and the objects of my invention are, first, to prevent the bottom of the door from swinging in either direction, preventing stock confined within from crowdin g out the bottom of the door, and the action of the wind and elements from removing the door from its proper position; second, to reduce friction to the least amount consistent with the object attained; third, to increase the strength and durability of the door; fourth, to prevent the door from being rolled or slid or thrown off the track. (The term roller and sliding doors as here used is understood to mean doors that hang from a track above and which are held in a vertical position by the force of gravity.) I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing.

A represents a rod running past the surface of the door adjacent to which the door opens, and attached to the opposite edges or cleats a a. This may be done by passing the rod through the cleats and fasten firmly at each end by any convenient method, or may be applied by having holes or eyes near the opposite ends of said rod and be bolted to the above-mentioned cleats.

B represents an eye attached to the building or surface I), at or near the side of the opening past which the door opens and through which the rod A passes.

I am aware that previous to my invention roller and sliding doors were in use. I therefore do not claim the right to them as such; but

WVhat I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination with a roller or sliding door, supported from an overhead track, said door being constructed with lateral inwardprojecting bars or flan ges a, a, forming thereby an internal recess between said flanges, and the body of the door, of a holding means comprising a stationary eye or ring 13, attached to the rear door-post b, protruding into said internal recess, and a rod A extending across the recess and engaging said stationary eye or ring B, and secured to the bars or flanges of the door, a a, whereby access to said holding means from the outside of the structure is precluded.
