Description
(No Model.)
C. STOTTMBISTER.
NECK SHIELD Patented June 9, 1896.
i ll l C l UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
CHARLES STOT'IMEISTER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
NECK-SHIELD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 561,73*?,dated .Tune 9, 1896.
Application filed July 30, 1895. Serial No. 557,649. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may concern,.-
Beit known that l, CHARLES STOTTMEIS- TER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Perspiration-Shields i' or Garments, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention has for its object a shield adapted to protect a dress or other garment from perspiration at the neck, back, and shoulders of the wearer thereof; and it consists of astanding collar which is fuller at the top than at the bottom and a body which is fuller at its lower portion than at top, so that the standing colla-r conforms to the curved contour of the neck of the wearer and the body conformsto the curve of the top of the back and adjacent shoulder portions of the wearer. i
Between the facin gs of the collar and body is a ply of waterproof materia-l, which is stitched at its edges to those of the collar and body and extends nnstitched between its ends, so that there is no liability of the perspiration to leak through the seam at the place of junction of the collar and body.
Figures l and 2 represent views of opposite faces of a shield. embodying my invention, the same being on different scales, Fig. l being partly broken away to show the interior ply of waterproof or repellent material. Fig. 3 represents a side elevation thereof. Fig. A represents a section on line o; ai, Fig. 2, on an enlarged scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts in the several gures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the lower portion or body of the shield, and B designates the upper portion thereof, said portion E being of the form cfa standing collar, which is united to the body by the stitches C.
In Fig. l the body is shown as stretched out and placed in fiat condition.
In Fig. 2 the collar is shown as stretched out and placed in flat condition; but when the shield is worn the folds primarily existing in the body and collar disappear as said parts are curved to conform to the back of the neck, body, and shoulders of the wearer.
Within the exterior fabric-coverings is a layer or ply of waterproof material I), which is secured to the edges of the body and collar, while the portion between the edges is disconnected from the body and collar, so as to be left intact and avoid the possibility of perspiration escaping through the same.
The collar is fuller at top than at bottom, so as to set evenly in curved direction on the neck of the wearer, while the body is fuller in its lower portion than at top, thus imparting the proper rotundity and set to the body.
lVhen the shield is worn, the collar B is located on the inner side of the back of a standing collar of the garment, while the body A is on the inner side of the back and shoulders of said garment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved shield for the rear of the neck, the back and the shoulders, consisting of a standing collar, fuller at the top than at the bottom, a body depending from said collar and secured to said bottom edge, the said body being fuller at the lower portion than at the top, and an inner piece of waterproof material which is stitched at its edges to those of the collar and body, and disconnected from the intermediate portions of said collar and body, and extends unbroken and seamless between its places of stitching, substantially as described.
CHARLES STOTTMEISTER.
