TWO-COM PARTMENT BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 559,697, dated May 5, 1896.
Application filed September 20, 1895. Serial No. 563 ,129. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH GALLAGHER, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Two-Compartment Bottle, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved two-compartment bottle, which is simple anddnrable in construction, and more especially designed for containing, separately, two kinds of tablets, pills, or other articles.
The invention consists principally of a bottle-body formed with a neck at each end to receive a closing device, and also formed at or near its middle with inwardly-extendin g projections integral with the body to form two compartments therein.
The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross-section of the same on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
The improved two-compartment bottle is provided with a tubular body A, made of glass or like material, and formed at its ends with open months having threaded necks B and B, each adapted to receive a closing device O or C, respectively, preferably made in the form of screw-caps, screwing on the threaded necks. The body A is formed at or near it middle with inwardly-extending projections D, so as to form two compartments E and E in the body A, each compartment having a separate neck and closing device, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 2.
The compartments E and E can be filled with two kinds of tablets, pills, or other articles, it being, however, more especially designed for containing two homeopathic medicines, usually prescribed for one ailment.
As shown in Fig. 8, the projections D are formed integral with the body A, and in making the bottle the cylindrical body is heated at or near the middle, and then the heated portion is pressed inward at one or more places to form the projections D. In case the body A is molded instead of blown, then the projections are formed directly in the mold, producing four projections D, as shown in Fig. 3, which are arranged in cross form to give considerable strength to the middle portion of the body A to prevent the latter from being broken. The projections D may be pressed sufficiently inward to meet the opposite ones, but in practice it is sufiicien't if they are pressed in close to the middle of the bottle, as illustrated in the drawings. If desired, the projections D may be formed in the shape of an annular flange by pressing in the middle part of the body A to form two compartments.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The herein-described bottle, comprising a tubular body having its opposite ends provided with open mouths adapted to receive stoppers, the central portion of said body having in its walls indentations pressed inward to form projections extending across the hollow interior of the body, the inner ends of said projections being arranged closely adjacent to and alined with each other to form a partition extending across the interior of the bottle, said partition being arranged to divide the hollow interior of the bottle into two compartments each of which communicates with one of the open mouths of the body, substantially as set forth.
HUGH GALLAGHER.
