Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 55,632, dated June 19, 1866.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, J oHN D. EnlvroNn and WILLIAM W. WIRT, both of the city of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knife-Sharpening Forks; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference thereon marked.

The nature of our invention consists in providing forks for table use with a file surface or edge, for the purpose of sharpening the knives.

Figure l shows a fork with the le formed upon the outer edge of each outer prong, and this, perhaps, is the most convenient form of construction. Fig. 2 represents a fork with the file-surface cut at the base of the prongs.

When the iile is to be used with al silver or plated fork, the file can be let into the fork at the desired point.

In the drawings, A represents the fork, and B the file-edge.

lt is more particularly intended that carving-forks shall be made in the manner described by us.

The file should be about what is termed a sharpener, and that a patent has been granted for combining an angle-whetter with a fork. We do not therefore desire to claim, broadly, the idea or plan of making table-forks serve as knife-Sharpeners, but simply to claim our particular inode of so doing.

Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

Providing a table-fork with a file edge or surface, substantially as specified, for the purpose of sharpening a knife.
