Be it known that I, FRANK ROWLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vest Superior, in the county of Douglas and State of \Visconsin, have invented a new and useful Dish-WVasher, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to dish-washers.

The main and primary object of the present I o invention is to provide a new and useful dishwasher having simple and eificient means for continuously circulating the same water for the purpose of washing dishes, and also for keeping the dishes sufficiently hot so that the same will quickly dry after washing.

The invention also contemplates a dishwasher of the character noted having as few parts as possible and very compactly arranged so as to be nearly all contained within the wash tank or receptacle.

Vith these and many other objects in View, which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination,

and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated, and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a dish-washer constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is 0 a central vertical sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line a: m of Fig. 2.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a metallic wash tank or receptacle 3 5 constructed in a cylindrical, square, or other desired shape and adapted to hold a sufficient quantity of water for the purpose of washing a number of dishes. The said wash tank or receptacle 1 is open at its upper end to receive the flanged tank-cover 2 that incloses the upper end of the same, and the said tank is provided with an imperforate inclined bottom 3 that declines to the screen suction-box 4:,which is arranged within the tank or receptacle at the lowest end of the bottom 3 and forms a suction-box for the vertical pump-cylinder 5, the lower end of which is connected to the top of the said screen-box and communicates with the interior thereof. The vertical pump-cylinder 5 is arranged inside of the wash tank or receptacle and secured in a fixed position against one side of the same, and the said cylinder accommodates therein the valved piston 6 attached to the lower end of the piston-rod 7 that works through the upper closed end of the cylinder and an opening 8 in one edge of the cover 2, and is loosely connected at its upper end to one end of the operating-lever 9. The operatinglever 9 is pivotally connected at an intermc- 6o diate point to the lower end of the swinging hanger-link 10, the upper end of which is loosely connected to the detachable piv ot-bolt 11, mounted in the upper end of the slotted bracket 12, secured to one side of the wash tank or receptacle at the upper end thereof, and by reason of the swinging support for the lever 9 it will be obvious that the piston-rod 7 may be reciprocated vertically to operate the valved piston without binding the same within 7 o the cylinder.

By manipulating the lever 9, which is provided with a handle 13 at one end, the water in the bottom of the tank or receptacle will be drawn in through the box 4 and forced out of 7 5 the u er end of the cylinder through the side outlet-pipe 14, that is connected to one side of the cylinder near its upper end and projects through and is secured in a perforation in one side of the wash tank or receptacle to provide for securing the cylinder in its upright position within the tank or receptacle. The outletpipe 14 has detachably fitted thereto one end of the flexible circulating pipe or hose 15, the other end of which is fitted onto the short cover-pipe 16 projected from the top of the cover 2 and communicating with the top opening 17 thereof. The pipe 15 provides for circulating the water back into the tank or receptacle onto the dishes therein, and to provide 0 for spraying the water throughout the entire top area of the wash tank or receptacle a root angular perforate spray-box 18 is fitted to the inner side of the tank-cover. The bottom and sides of the spray-box 18 are provided with a number of spray-openings 19, and said box 18 is of nearly or substantially the same area as the upper open end of the wash tank or receptacle, so that the spray will reach everypart of the same and therefore provide for a thor- I00 ough washing of the dishes.

At a point above the lowest end of the bottom 3 the tank or receptacle is provided with the supporting-lugs 20, which support thereon one edge of the removable perforated supporting-shelf 21, on which is placed the dishes to be washed and through the perforations of which the water circulates to the suction-box of the pump. The shelf 21 is further provided thereon with a series of upwardly-projected rest-lugs 22, to hold the dishes that may be placed thereon.

Changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is

As an improved article of manufacture, a dish washer constructed substantially as herein shown and described and consisting of a tank or receptacle having an inclined bottom and provided in one side near the top thereof with an 'openin g, a horizontal supporting shelf located at the lower end of the tank and provided with upwardly-projected rest lugs, a suction pump fitted against a side of the tank and having an outlet pipe in its side which is fitted in the lateral opening of the tank, and having a screen suction box at its lower end arranged below the said shelf and at the lowest side of the inclined bottom, a cover removably fitted to the upper end of the tank and having a top opening and an inner spray box, a flexible hose pipe connecting the top opening of the cover with the said outlet pipe of the pump, and a lever fulcrumed upon the tank and operatively connected with the piston of the pump so as to operate the latter, substantially in the manner set forth for the purpose described.
