To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CURT E. OELMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of \Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Mixing Dough, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention consists in the improved construction of a dough-mixing machine and particularly in the construction of such a machine comprising a trough and mixing frame or stirrer journaled on stub-shafts at the end of the trough and consisting of V-shapcd loops or bends between the shafts.
The invention further consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts, all as more fully hereinafter described.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my improved machine. Fig. 2 is a horizontal central section thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical central cross-section; and Fig. 4 is a detached perspective view of the stirrer or mixer frame.
A is a trough, preferably of metal, open at the top and supported on legs B.
C are reinforcing loops or bands around the trough.
D is a door, forming substantially one side of the trough, hinged at its lower edge and having securing devices, such as latches E, for its upper edge.
F are detachable end pieces for the trough centrally apertured to receive the stub-shafts G of the mixing-frame. Around these stubshafts are the striding-boxes II. On the end of one shaft G is secured the gear-wheel I, which is connected by suitable gearing with the hand-wheel J, so that by rotation of the hand-wheel the stirrer or mixer frame is r0- tated in the trough. This stirrer-frame consists of the end scraping-sections K extended at right angles to the shaft across the face of the detachable end pieces F of the frame.
These scraping-sections K extend in opposite directions from the two stub-shafts. Their ends are, connected together. by the substan tially V-shaped loops or bonds L, of such length as to bring their ends in close proximity to the sides of the trough. This frame is preferably formed of a narrow bar bent zigzag with all its angles or turns in substantially the same plane, which bar is provided with sharpened edges M, as shown in Fig. 3, and may be said to consist of the two straight sections and the intermediate zigzag section with sharpened edges. The straight scraping-sections keep the dough from the end plates of thetrough, While the intermediate zigzag section will thoroughly mix the water and flour which are put in from the top and thus will mix the dough.
By forming the mixer-bar as described and as illustrated in the drawings I attain great advantages over the spirally or helically formed mixer now generally employednamely, the bar is not only more easily forced through the dough on account of its sharpened edges, but the dough is not moved from end to end of the trough as is the case with the spiral mixer. ough mixing of the material with little expenditure of power.
What I claim as my invention is-- In a dough mixing machine, the combination with a trough or receptacle, having a removable closure, shafts projecting through the ends of the receptacle, a mixing frame connecting the shafts, and consisting of a bar having a series of parallel loops extending in opposite directions laterally beyond the shafts and having sharpened edges arrangedon the same plane throughout the respective loops, and means for revolving the frame, substantially as described.
