Description

(No Model.)
H. J. GILCHER. BASIN WASTE STOP.
No. 541,845. Patented July 2, 1 95.
. NTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY J. GILCHER, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
BA SlN-WASTE STOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 541,845, dated July 2, 1895.
Application filed November 17, 1893. Serial No. 491,286. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. GILOHER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Basin-Waste Stops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to basin wastes and consists in the new construction of means for operating the waste stop plug, substantially as hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim. a
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section of my new basin waste stop operating mechanism. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of same, showing the means for operating from the front. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the operating rods. Fig. 4 is a detached view of the plug or stopper.
A represents a shell or chamber located beneath the bowl and secured thereto by the screw-threaded outlet sleeve B.
O is the plug or stopper playing in said outlet sleeve, the upper disk of which closes the outlet. It also has a lower disk, and vested wings c, c which form chambers in the sides of the plug.
In the side of the shell A is provided a set screw a which serves to prevent the plug being drawn clear out by the screw acting as a stop against the lower disk when lifted.
D is a rod held in a box fixed in one side of the shell A provided with a stufling box d. On the end of said rod is fixed a disk or cam E, having a pin 6, designed for lifting the plug or stopper when the rod is rotated. On the outer end of said rod is attached a knob F, seen in Fig. 2, when the plug or stopper is to be operated from the front. When the plug or stopper is to be operated from the top of the slab covering the bowl, a second vertical rod G, is provided connected with the horizontal rod D, and extending up through the slab,
through a sleeve H fixed in the slab for supporting it. e I
I is a tube havingaswiveled head J through which the rod D is loosely placed andwhich serves to support the rod. Into said tube the lower end of rod G is inserted and is adj ustably fixed by a set-screw 9. On the rod D is placed a collar K, adjustably held in close proximity to the head J, and has a double or looped arm L attached at one side.
M is a pin fixed in one side of the tube I and extends through the said loop arm L, by
means of which, when the said rod G is rotated, a quarter turn, acts upon the loop L to turn the rod D likewise and through the medium of the pin 6, on the disk E, will lift the plug or stopper for the purpose of opening the outlet. By rotating the rod back again the pin e is lowered and theplug drops back by its gravity and closes the outlet.
In the chambers of the plug are provided pins P for the purpose of catching any refuse, as hair, threads, &c., and enabling it to be removed by loosening the set-screw a. and with drawing the plug and cleaning it and then replacing it.
Having described my invention, I claim- In a basin waste stop the combination of a vertical rod G, a sleeve H inserted in a hole in the slab and supporting the rod, a tube I on the lower end of said rod, a set-screw g for adjustably holding the tube on the rod, a
swiveled head J on the lower end of said tube,
a horizontal rod D, loosely supported in said swiveled head, acollar K on the rod D held by a set-screw, a loop arm L attached to said collar, a pin M attached to the tube I and extending through said loop arm, all constructed to operate substantially as described.
HENRY J. GILOI-IER. Witnesses:
