No. 531,248. Patented Dec. 18, 1894.

CHARLES BARTscH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLOTH ES-LINE FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 531,248, dated December 18, 1 894.
" Application filed August 14,1894. Serial No. 520,242. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES BARTSCH, of New York city, New York, have invented an Improved Clothes-Line Fastener, of which the following isv a specification.
This invention relates to'an improved fastener for connecting the two ends of a clothes line and which permits the line to be readily tightened or slackened.
In the accompanying drawingsr Figure 1 is a side view of my improved fastener showing it open. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on lines 2, 2, Figs. 3 and 4.- showing it closed. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the fastener, and Fig. 4 an end view thereof.
The letter a, represents the tubular body or shell of the fastener provided at one end with a perforated socket a, for receiving the knotted end A, of the clothes line B. At the opposite end the shell a, is slotted and provided with downwardly projecting lugs a that constitute the bearings for the pivot b, of the clamping lever c. This lever is made of the peculiar form shown in Fig. 1 that is to say it is provided with an eccentric nose c, at one end and with a serrated dog 0 at the opposite end, which projects at about right angles to said nose. The nose 0, is adapted to press the line B against a serrated section a formed on the inner wall of the shell a, while the dog 0 is adapted to press said line against a curved shoulder a, of socket a. In this way a double grip is obtained which securely locks the free end of the line B, to the fastener.
In order to slacken or remove the line the lever c, is swung down (Fig. 1) when both the dog 0 and the eccentric nose 0', will release the line and permit it be withdrawn.
What I claim is The combination of a slotted tubular shell having an inner serrated surface a and a jam erate with the surface a and shoulder a, re-
spectively, substantially as specified.
CHARLES BARTSCH.
