UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN T. TURNER, OF JAMESTOWN, NORTH DAKOTA.
DRENCHlNG-BOTTLE.
Y SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 529,978, dated November 27,1894.
Application iiled June 13, 1894 Serial No. 514,405. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, JOHN T. TURNER, of Jamestown, in the county of Stutsman and State of North Dakota, have inventeda new and Improved Drenchi'ng-Bott-le, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip-Y tion.
The invention relates to apparatus for administering medicine to horses and other animals, and its object is to provide a new and improved drenching bottle, which is simple and durable in construction, and arranged to permit of conveniently dosing the animal, without danger of spilling the medicine contained in the bottle.
The invention consists in certain parts and details, and combinations of the same, as will be hereinafter fully described and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the irnprovement. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same; and Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the filling vessel in place on the neck of the bottle.
The improved drenching bottle is provided with a bottom body portion A, from which extends the bent portion A', terminating in a neck part A2 bent in an opposite direction to the part A', as plainly shown in Fig. 1.
The bottle is preferably made of glass, vand tapers by graduated degrees from the bottom part A to the neck A2, and the said bottle is preferably covered by a sheet metal or other cover B on the outside of the bottle.
The neck of the bottle is adapted to be closed by a stopper O, and on the bottom portion of the cover B screws a cap D, formed in its middle with the funnel D', adapted to fit over the neck of the bottle, as indicated 'in Fig. 3, to conveniently fill the bottle with the medicine to be administered.
It is understood that for the purpose of tilling the bottle the cap D is unscrewed from the bottom end of the lining, and replaced aftery the bottle is filled.
The bottom of the bottle is curved inward sufficiently to make sufficient room for the funnel D', as will f be readily understood by reference to Fig. 2.
After the bottle is filled with medicine and the cork C is removed, then the operator can conveniently pass the neck A2 of the bottle into the somewhat opened mouth of the animal, and then by quickly turning the bottle around with the neck portion inserted, the contents of the bottle will readily run out and into the animals mouth and down the throat thereof, to be swallowed in the usual way. Thus it will be seen that the double bend or crook in the bottle permits of inserting the neck of the bottle in the mouth, while the principal or main portion of the bottle is in a lowermost or downward position, and by then turning the body portion with the neck A2 as a fulcrum, the bottle is readily emptied of its contents.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A drenching bottle having an enlarged bottom and contracted outlet, a protecting covering closely fitting and inclosing the bottle and open at 'its larger end, and an annular cap D removably fitting the said larger end and having a funnel D' adapted to enter the smaller end of the bottle when said cap is removed, substantially as described.
JOHN TURNER.
