GLASS RECEPTACLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 528,631, dated November 6,1894.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CASPER T. GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dublin, in the county of Vayne, in the State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful device or receptacle for the preservation of its contents from the destructive ravages of the natural elements; andI do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.-

My invention relates to a device or glass receptacle for preserving in their original state, written or, printed memoranda, obituaries, photographs and other items of biography or history, intended to be buried with the body of the deceased. f

The prime object of my invention is to enable the friends or others to identify the remains of the deceased person with whom my device or receptacle has been buried, after the lapse of a series of years or of ages, and to render such identification not only certain but infallible. This object or end I accomplish in the manner and by the means hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l shows the device or receptacle closed and ready for use. Fig. 2 shows a transverse section of the outer cylinder of the device or receptacle with the caps in position and the inner tube partially inserted.

A is a plain, glass, receiving, cylindrical tube, open at both ends and having the ends ground and Iitted with caps or covers, C and D, so as to exclude the air and'all generated gases, and being of suitable size to receive a smaller tube.

B is a cylindrical tube me of glass or its equivalent, with both ends closed and having a flange, @atlhelowerieidsiall enough to pass into the largericylinder, A, and being longer than t'llarger cylinder, A, so as to fit into the cap loi'fcoirer, C;

C and D are glasspcapsfor covers made to fit over theeid'o'fthe cylinder, A, the upper cap or cover, C, having a recess to receive the upper end of B, so that When the upper end of the tube B is inserted in the recess of cap C, the cap and tube form a piston which can be inserted and Withdrawn from the larger cylinder, A, as desired.

To use my device or receptacle, withdraw the flanged tube, B, from the cylinder, A, wrap the written or printed memoranda tightly around thejgbeLB, 'with the written side inward. Having thus wrapped the Written or printed matter around the tube, B, the name, date of deahth, residence, dto., together with a photogiph of the deceased, may be placed on the outside of this. I then insert this tube inttlelrge cylinder, A, press/ing it down until the flanged end of the tube, B, rests firmly against the lower cap, D. I then place the upper cap, C, over the end of the tube, B, and cylinder, A, thus excluding all air from the written or printedmatter. .This being done, the caps being firmly placed over each end of the large cylinder, A, the name, date of death placefoff residence, &c., may be easily'readfthroughthe large cylinder, A. Thislth'n deposit in thc'asket with body of the deceased.V It being glass and indestructible, and also impervious to air, Water and generated gases, will preserve the contents in its original state for a series of years or for ages so that naine, date of death, residence, dto., may be readily obtained from an external 'view ofthe receptacle and without exposing its contents to the ravages of the air or external elements.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y A glass receptacle composed of the tube A closed at its ends with the removable caps C and D respectively, and carrying in .1t the tube B removably inserted at one end 1n the recess in the cap C, substantially as shown and described.
