Description

NITED STATES Trice...
PATENT ,IMPROVED SKATE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,013, dated January 16, 1866.
To all twhom, it may concern:
Be it know'n that I, E. H. BARNEY, ot' Springfield, Hampden county, Commonwealth otl Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skates; and I herebyT declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters ot' reference marked thereon.
This invention consists ot' certain improvements in the manner of constructing skates made wholly of steel and iron as I will hereinafter more fully describe.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side view of a skate constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are views of the bracket A.
In construction, this skate consists ot' the toot-plate B, heel-plate C, runner D, and the brackets A A, SLC.
rlhe runner D is formed of one piece of rolled steel punched of the desired shape. The foot and toe plates B and C are also punched from sheet-steel, as are also the brackets A A', 85o., which are bent after cutting.
The principal points I wish to advance as new in this invention are the use of the brackets A A', 83e., and the method employed ot raising the front end of the toe-plate.
The'tirst-named improvement consists in employing the curved brackets A A, formed from sheet-steel, as before mentioned, cut out ot' the desired form and afterward bent; and the second consists in raising the toe end of the plate B by lengthening the brackets A A', instead of carrying the end a ot' the runner up at this point to meet the foot-plate. rIhe object of this is that the runnerD may be t'ormed ot' one width throughout, thus greatly reducing the cost ot' manufacture, as it may be rolled instead of forged.
Now, having' described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The bracket A, when constructed and used substantially in the manner and for the purpose herein described.
2. The method ot' raising' the front end ot' the toe-plate B by means ot' the brackets A A', substantiallyT in the manner set forth.
