PATENT FFICE.
MAX SOHEUER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
POCKET-BOOK.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,096, dated February 20, 1894.
Application filed September 9. 1893- Serial No.485,160. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, MAX SCHEUER, of New York city, New York, have invented an Improved Pocket-Book, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved pocket book, which is provided with a pocket open at both ends and designed for the reception of the handkerchief. In this way a lady can carry the handkerchief in a very convenientmanner, can readily remove it by its protruding ends and at the same time such ends will present a neat and ornamental appearance.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pocket book provided with myimproveinent, showing it open. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing it closed.v Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modification.
The letter a, represents the folding cover of a pocket book that is adapted to be doubled upon itself. To one section of this cover there are secured the usual pockets a, adapted for the reception of money or other matter. To the opposite section of the cover there are secured two flaps c, c, which face each other and which are provided with a catch b, by which their free ends may be connected. These flaps, when closed, form a pocket which is open at the ends and is adapted for the reccption of a handkerchief.
In Fig. 3, the folding cover is retained and It will be seen, that as the handkerchief-receiving pocket is secured to one section of a folding cover, the pocket book may be freely closed, even if the handkerchief is in place.
My improved pocket book will be found to be of great convenience to ladies, as it relieves them of the trouble of carrying their handkerchiefs separately. At the same time the handkerchief is tastefully exposed to view and is readily accessible.
What I claim is l A pocket book having one side prolonged upward or in the direction of the mouth of the pocketbook, to such a length as to cover the other side when bent over said mouth, and having, on the outer portion of such extension which is adapted to cover such other side, flaps fastening together to form a receptacle of capacity independent of the capacity or condition of the pocket book, for holding a handkerchief, substantially as described.
