R.J.VANDERBEGK. HORSE COLLAR FASTENER.
No. 502,213. Patented July 25, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
R. J. VANDERBEOK, OF SHELDON, IOWA.
HORSE-COLLAR FAsTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 502,213, dated July 25, 1893.
Application filed February 28, 1893. Serial No. 464,104. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, R J. VANDERBECK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sheldon, in the county of OBrien and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Collar- Lock, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in horse collar fasteners.
The object of the present invention is to simplify and improve the construction of horse collar fasteners and to enable the parts of the'same to be readily connected and separated to facilitate the placing and removal of a horse collar.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a horse collar fastener constructed in accordance with this invention, the sections being connected or locked. Fig. 2 is a similar view, the sections being separated. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the lug.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 and 2 designate sections of a horse collar fastoner constructed of metal and consisting of curved plates adapted to conform to the ends of a collar and provided with perforated arms 2 and having flanges 3 and 4 arranged at the inner meeting ends of the sections and adapted to abut when the sections are connected or locked. The section 1 is provided with an integral lug 5 which is received in a slot 6 of the flange 3 and is engaged by a pivoted latch 7, and the latter is pivotally mounted on the outer face of the flange 3. The lug is provided in its outer face with an L-shaped recess 8 which forms shoulders 9 and 10, and
the slot 6 of the flange 3 is provided with an enlarged portion or mouth and a narrow portion. The lug is inserted in the enlarged portion or mouth of the slot .6, and is then moved laterally to bring its shoulder 9 opposite the narrow portion of said slot, and the shoulder 9 engages the flange 3 and prevents the withdrawal of the lug, and the latter is held in the narrow portion by a shoulder of the latch which engages the shoulder 10 of the lug. The latch is readily withdrawn from engagement with the lug to permit the latter to be removed from the slot 6. The perforated arms of the plates, plates 11, and bolts pro vide means for adj ustably securing the collar fastener to a horse collar.
It will be readily seen that the collar fastoner is simple and inexpensive in construction and is adapted to have its parts readily connected or locked, and separated to facilitate the placing and removal of a horse collar.
What I claim is- In a horse collar fastener, the combination of the sections 1 and 2 consisting of curved plates and provided with flanges 3 and 4, the flange 3 being provided with a slot having an enlarged portion or mouth and a narrow portion, the lug formed integral with the section 1 and provided in its outer face with an L- shaped recess forming shoulders 9 and 10, and the latch pivoted to the flange 3 and arranged to engage the shoulder of the lug, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
R J. VANDERBEOK.
