COMBINED JUMPER AND APRON.

Be it known that I, THOMAS R. CHAMBERS, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Oombined Jumper andApron,of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Myinvention relates to a garment for Workmen, and has for its object to combine a jumper with an apron; and a further object of the invention is to providea means whereby the garment may be secured upon the person in an expeditious and convenient manner, and to further provide a fastening device which may be located at the back of the garment and manipulated from the front, which fastening device will be exceedingly simple, and will admit of the wearer of the garment assuming any posture that could be assumed when an ordinary jacket is worn.

My invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters and figures of refere nce indicate corresponding parts in both the views.

Figure 1 is a rear view of the garment, illustrating it in position upon the person; and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the garment removed from the person. I

In carrying out the invention, an apron A, is combined with an ordinary jumper B; in fact, the body of the jumper and the apron may be made in one piece or from one piece of material. The construction of the apron and jumper may be the ordinary construction, with the exception that the collar 0 is without abreak,being continu0us,but the jumper is provided with the usual opening D in the back, which extends from the collar to the bottom portion of the jumper, and through the latter.

The main feature of the invention consists in the device employed for fastening the garment upon the person, and this fastening device comprises mainly two tapes 10 and 11. The tapes are secured by buttons 12, or equivalent fastening devices to the upper rear portion of the jumper, one at each side of the opening D therein. The tapes are made to cross one another, and are carried downward through suitable openings 13, made in tabs 14, said tabs being preferably horizontallylocated near the bottom portion of the jumper, one at each side of the opening D, and the tabs are ordinarily secured to the jumper at or near the side seam thereof, it such a seam is employed, the inner ends being free. Thus in operation, after the head has been passed through the upper opening of the jumper surrounded by the neck-band, and the arms have beenintroduced into the sleeves of the j umper (if it is provided with sleeves) the tapes are carried to the front around the waist of the wearer, and tension is then exerted upon the tapes, whereupon the back opening of the jumper will be closed, as shown in Fig. 1, and the tapes may be secured together at the front or side of the wearer by a suitable knot, or by means of any suitable device. Before the tapes are carried to the front they are crossed, so that when tension is applied to the tapes, the inner or free ends of the tabs will be drawn close to the body of the wearer, as is fully illustrated in Fig. 1.

It will be observed that a fastening device of the description above set forth is not only simple, economical and durable, but may be readily manipulated and in a most convenient manner, and furthermore, when the tapes are secured to the jumper through the medium of buttons, they may be removed when the garment is to be washed.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a jumper or like garment provided with guides at each side of its rearopening, and tapes attached to the garment at each side of the said rear opening, near the upper portion thereof, the said tapes being crossed and passed through the guides, as and for the purpose specified.
