Description

(No Model.)
C. FRANKEL. DISPLAY RACK.
No. 500,879.v Patented July 4, 1.893.
fw. W'
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES FRANKEL, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
DIS PLAY-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,879, dated July 4, 1893. Application filed October 4, 1892. Serial No, 447,807. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES FRANKEL, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n DisplayRacks, as set forth in the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specication, in which the figure is a perspective View of my display rack. 0 My invention relates to means for displaying articles of merchandise and it consists of the construction and combination of parts which I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now describe its construction and indicate the manner in which the same is carried out.
In the said drawing I have shown the rack as of the suspension form, and having a length greater than its width, but the dimensions of the rack may be altered as desired, and two or more racks of the form shown may be joined together along adjoining sides, Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
The specific form of rack shown consists of a series of approximately 1-shaped piecesA the upper end of whose side arms a are bent over to embrace the horizontal arm b of the piece next above it, and whose own horizontal arm likewise receives the vertical side arms of the piece next below it as shown. By this means the rack is formed of a series of pieces or sections and it may be lengthened at any time by the addition of other pieces or shortened by the removal of one or more of said pieces. The vertical arms of one piece being joined to the horizontal arm of the contiguous piece, a pivotal connection is formed between each pieceAthereby rendering the whole rack iiexible and permitting the pieces to fold one upon the other, or may be folded close together whereby the device occupies but a minimum of space in packing when not in actual use. The uppermost section A of the rack shown in the gure has its vertical side arms bent inward toward each other as shown at c c the portion c being formed with an eye or loop adapted to embrace the other portion c which latter portion is extended upwardly in the plane ofthe vertical center of the rack and is formed with a hook d at its upper end as shown.
Instead of locating the hook at the center of the rack, the side arms of the uppermost section may be prolonged and formed with upper hooked end as shown by dotted lines in the figure. From this description it will be seen that the rack may be readily suspended from a wire or other support and the Various articles of merchandise may be prominently displayed by hanging them upon the horizontal arms of the sections.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A display rack formed with sections of approximately form hinged together to fold in either direction, the end section having its side arms bent parallel with the horizontal arm, one of the bent portions c being formed with an eye through which the portion c projects, said portion c having a hook at its eX- tremity, substantially as herein described.
