WRISTBAND.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,435, dated June 27, 1893.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWIN DAVIS SMITH, of Chattanooga, in the county of Hamilton and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and usefnllmprovements in Wristbands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain improvements in apparel, and more particularly to improvementsin wrist bands or cuffs.

The invention consists in certain novel'features in construction and arrangement as particularly described hereinafter and shown in the accompanying illustration in which Figure 1, is a perspective view showing the wristband straightened out and partially swung around. Fig. 2, is a perspective view showing the wrist band folded outwardly. Fig. 3, is a perspective view showing the wrist band folded inwardly and presenting surfaces different from those exposed in Fig. 2. Fig. 4, is a plan of the blank from which the wrist band can be formed.

In the drawings the reference letter a, indicates a shirt sleeve and 1), indicates the wrist band.

The wrist band is formed of double length or in other words is formed of twice its proper length when folded so that it must be folded or doubled back upon itself (at c) at or near the center of its length to form the wrist band of the proper and desired length. The outer half, free end, or flap cl, of the wrist band is capable of folding back to the inner or the outer surface of the inner half or section of the wristband. This outer half of the wrist band is provided with the button holes e, e, ator near its outer corners or along its outer edges and arranged to register with the button holes f, f, correspondingly located in the edges of the inner half of the wrist-band. The button is then placed through all four button holes and the wrist band is properlyheld and forms a neat and attractive cuff.

If the wrist band is folded as shown in Fig 2, and the cuff becomes soiled, all that is necessary is to remove the cuff button, straighten out the wristband, and swing the outer or free half of the wrist band from the outer side thereof to the inner side, as shown in Fig. 3, and then overlapping the edges of the wrist band and passing the cuff button through the holes. Thus the soiled surfaces of the cuff before exposed are completely concealed and entirely different and fresh surfaces are exposed. A

The cuff formed is very neat and tasty in appearance and the edges are so formed as to be durable against wear. The cuff is very easily laundried and ironed.

The wrist band is formed of onepiece of cloth.

A blank is shown in Fig. L from which the wrist band is formed of a single piece of cloth. This blank is cut out of suitable cloth and in length is preferably, three times as long as the complete wrist band when the extension is turned out. The blank is the same width as the wrist-band except at the parts thereof, provided with the side flaps D D. These side flaps D. D. preferably only extend two thirds of the length of the band as shown, and they are provided with button holes to register with the buttonholes in the body of the blank. After this blank has been cut out the proper size and shape the part A is folded on the line 1-1 over on the part B, the side flaps D, D, being turned out. The side flaps D, D, are then turned over on the portions A and O. The portions A and B are then folded over on the portion 0 on the line 2-2. The portions A, B, C, thus folded together form the full length of the wrist band. The side flaps D, D, cover or bind the end edges of the wrist band, and the folds are stitched together and the two parallel stitches 3-3 are run across the center of the wrist band on each side of the folding line '0.
