No. 495,252- PatentedApr. 11, 189s.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VINA JONES, OF ABILENE, TEXAS.l
CUTTING-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 495,252, dated. April 11g, 1893.
ApplicationledDecember 9,1892. Serial No.454,679. (No model.) y
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, VINA JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Abilene, in the county of Taylor and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Cutting Board or Table for Millinery and Domestic Uses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to improvements in trimming-tables and the object is to provide a table for conveniently measuring, holding, and cutting or trimming cloths or other fabrics disposed and arranged thereon, as hereinafter set forth. A
My invention consists in the novel construction and arrangements of the parts and their combination, as will be hereinafter specified, and particularly pointed out inthe claim.
I have fully and clearly illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings, Wherein- Figure 1 is a plan View of the table having the graduated measures, and provided with the spring-holders. Fig. 2 is a detail of one of the spring holding devices.
A designates the top of the table, or a board adapted to be laid on a table or otherwise suitably supported. This top or board is of any suitable length, and has marked thereon longitudinally arranged measuring scales 1,' 2, divided into such parts as may be requisite and needed. Between these longitudinally arranged measures are parallel lines 3,
running the length of the measures and arranged at such distance as may be convenient to indicate divisions of measures transversely between the edge- scales 1 and 2, and to facilitate the securing of the measure and to ascertain the Width of the fabric to be cut, the parallel lines are intersected by transversely arranged columns or lines 4, 5, 6, in which are indicated by numerals the distance from the edge-lines, as shown in the drawings. A
At the ends of the table or board are detachably secured spring- arms 7, 8; and intermediate bet-Ween these are similar arms, 9, 10, 11, as maybe required. These spring-arms consist of spring-wires or narrow and thin strips of spring metal, as shown, and are formed with a stem a, running parallel with the face of the table, and have an arched portion h, terminating in a footpiece c, pressing on the face of the table and adapted to press down on the fabric placed on the table and hold it in a position to which it is adjusted thereon. The spring-arms or holdingarms, are held in position by sleeves 12, fixed on thetable, to take the stems of the arms in case Wires are used to make the arms of; or if the spring-strips are used; then spring tongues or keepers 13, are secured to the table, and the stems of the strips passed under the keepers wherein they are detachably retained. By making the spring-,arms detachable they are readily removed from association with the table, their removal leaving the table free for such other uses as may be desired; and by making the arms of the form shown and described, with the arch b, a ready hand-hold is presented whereby they may be inserted or removed, and also when adjustment of the fabrics under them is desired or required, they may conveniently be raised up free from the table and the cloth adjusted without tendency to wrinkle or stretch.
The invention is especially useful as a cutting board or table for milliners, but is also equally adapted for domestic purposes. It
is designed for use in cutting out upon.l The rial, while the cut is made along the edge ofl the board.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination, a trimming-board provided with parallel and transversely arranged indicated measures, keepers secured to the face In Witness whereof I hereunto set my hand of the board, and spring-holding arms, dein the presence of two witnesses. tachably secured in the keepers, and consisting of a stem arranged parallel with the face VIN A JONES. 5 of the board and an arched front portion terminating in a foot-piece adapted to bear WltsesPEmH on the face of the board, substantially as set forth.
