J. H. E. ZEIP. FEED BAG HOLDER.
No. 484,278. Patented Oct. 11, 1892.
THE nomus vEvEws cm, mow-mum, WAEWJGYON, u. c.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. E. ZEIP, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
FEED-BAG HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 484,278, dated October 11, 1892.
Application filed April 18, 1892. Serial No. 429,654. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. E. ZEIP, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed-Bag Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improvement in feed-bag holders for supporting a feed-bag at the outer ends of vehicle-thills, so that the bag may be in convenient position to permit the horse or other animal to eat from the same, the object of the invention being to provide a simple, convenient, and effective and easilymanaged adjustable arrangement, whereby the feed-bag can be supported adj ustably at the ends of the thills; and the invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, substantially as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective View of myimproved feed-bag holder. Fig. 2 is a 1ongitudinal sectional elevation of a portion of the same.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures.
A A designate the thills or shafts of any ordinary vehicle, and D a feed-bag made of any suitable material and of any convenient size. This bag is so shaped and constructed that it can be supported at the outer ends of the shafts below the head of the horse in such a position that the horse can eat the contents of the bag easily and without difficulty. The forward corners of the feed-bag D are provided with straps a at, having buckles, and the rear corners of said bag are also provided with similar straps b b, likewise having buckles.
O C designate the slide or adjusting rods. The straps a a are passed through slots in the slide-bars 0, near the forward ends thereof, and the ends of the straps are then secured by means of the buckles, so that the outer part of the bag is securely fastened to these rods 0 C.
rods 0 C.
B B designate tubes or sleeves of suitable length and diameter. The rear ends of these sleeves B are entered bythe thills A A, while the forward ends thereof are entered by the The sleeves B are provided at both the rear and the forward ends with set-screws or thumb-screws c c, by means of which the sleeves can be clamped upon the thills and rods within them, said sleeves being thus adjustable.
The straps b are firmly connected to the rear ends of the feed-bag D, pass around the sleeve 13 loosely, and then have their ends secured by the buckles with which the straps are provided. Thus it will be seen that by inserting the rods 0 farther into the sleeve B or withdrawing them therefrom the feed-bag can be adjusted toward or away from the horses head, so as to locate it in proper and conven ient position. The adj ustability of the device relates not only to the movement of the rods 0 to different positions, but also in the movement of the sleeves B upon the ends of thills A. Thus the sleeves B can be so placed that only a short portion of the ends of the thills will lie within them, and when this is the case the feed-bag can be removed at some distance from the ends of the thills. The sleeves B therefore form a connection at all times between the thills and the rods 0, which connection is an adjustable one, the parts being capable of extension and contraction in the way that I have described, in order that the feed-bag may be placed at different distances horizontally from the ends of the thills, and consequently from the horse or other animal, and therefore said bag can be adjusted so as to suit any animal.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The herein-desoribed feed-bag holder, consisting in the combination, with the shafts A, of the adjusting-rods O, the feed-bag D, provided with the buckle-provided straps a, by means of which it is secured to the rods 0 C, said straps passing through slots in the rods, the sleeves B, which are entered at their rear ends by the thills A and at their forward ends by the rods 0, said sleeves being provided with suitable set-screws, by means of which they can be clamped upon the thills and rods, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the shafts A, the slide-rods O, the feed-bag D, fastenedsecurely to the slide-rods O, the sleeves B, having setscrews 0, and the straps 12, passing loosely around the sleeves B and connected to the feed-bag, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. E. ZEIP.
