W. N. B. ALDERSON & J. W. ALLEN.
CLAMP,
No. 483,825. Patented 0015'. 4, 1892.v
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM N. B. ALDERSON AND JAMES WILLIAM ALLEN, OF EUREKA SPRINGS, ARKANSAS; SAID ALDERSON ASSIGNOR, AND SAID ALLEN ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD OF HIS RIGHT, TO EDWIN R. BAY, OF
SAME PLACE.
CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,825, dated October 4, 1892.
Application filed February 4, 1892.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WILLIAM N. B. ALDER- SON and JAMES WILLIAM ALLEN, citizens of the United States, residing at Eureka Springs, in the county of Carroll and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Clamps; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in clamps especially adapted for use as a clothesclamp for suspending clothes from a line; and the object of the invention is the provision of a clamp inexpensive in construction, durable, and thoroughly efficient for the desired purpose.
The invention consists of a clamp formed of a single piece of elastic wire, substantially as illustrated, described, and claimed.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of our clamp applied for use. Fig. 2 represents a front view thereof, and Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of a modified form of our clamp.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates our clamp made from a single piece of Wire, and in producing the clamp we first bend the wire to form an eye 7, then the vertical arms 2 and 5, and then the Serial No. 420,253. (No model.)
central double eye 4. From this eye 4 the wire is bent to form the vertical arms 6 and 3 and finally terminates in an eye 7 From this construction it is evident that we provide two clamping portions by means of the arms 2 5 and 3 6, respectively, which are near together or normally in contact, and they receive the articles between the arms, as shown, and retain them in position, and the eyes 7 and 7 x and eye 4 allow the passage of the line, all as shown.
In the modified form 1 of our clamp we bend the wire to form the eyes 7 x and 7 outside straight arms 2 and 3", and inside arms 5 and 6", straight for a suitable distance and then curved inward and bent to form the eyes 4, arranged a suitable distance apart by the arms 4:, all as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
The clamp is simple, durable, and cheap and may be used as a clothes-clamp or for any other purpose where it could be employed.
We claim A suspension-clamp consisting of a series of binding-arms, two of them having eyes at their free ends and. the others having the double intermediate eye, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures
