Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 47,90, dated May 23, 1865.
other edge resting upon the top oven-plate at such distance from the fire plate as Will serve to protect the top oven-plate from injury by fire. This curved plate is so shaped as to form, when in position, a projection over the firechamber similar to that formed by the top horizontal bar, described in the patent hereinbefore referred to, and for the same purpose. The curved plate is seen at A, Figure 4, in
the drawings, the point where it joins the fire-plate at B,Fig.2,and where it joins thetop oven-plate at D. The shape and operation of this projecting air chamber is similar to the gas-burner for which a pa tent was granted me in April, 1863, No. 38,194. By means of this curved plate I regulate the escape of heat from the fire-chamber and protect thedivision or fire-plate and top oven-plate from the immediate action of the fire at exposed points.
What I claim as my invention, for which I desire to secure Letters Patent, it-
A detachable curved iron plate, when arranged in relation to the oven and fire-plate of cooking-stoves, in the manner and for the purpose herein set forth and described.
