NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH A. BOEHRINGER AND FRANK X. MULLER, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
PRINTERS PRESS-GUIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,679, dated July 12, 1892.
Serial No. 424,369- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOSEPH A. BOEH- RINGERand FRANK X. MULLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Buifalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Printers Press-Guides; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
' and exact description of the invention; such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide a guide which can be easily and quickly secured to the tympan or blanket of a press; and it consists in providing the hinged or swinging top part with teeth that shut down into the blanket, and, in connection with the under part, holding the same firmly in the jaws thus formed. The gage end of the screwguide is also pro\ ided with teeth, and the upper edge has a projecting lug, all as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the teeth set in the tympan; Fig. 2,9. front view of guide; Fig. 3, a perspective of screw-guide; Fig. at, a top plan view of whole device.
A B represent the top and bottom, respectively, of the device, made of suitable metal, and the top piece has its front and sides bent down and teeth formed therein by cutting out spaces, leaving sharp points a a" a". Through the sides, near the front, runs a fine threaded adj Listing-screw 0, having the usual head at one end 0 and at the other a guide 0, being a flat-faced head, having teeth 6 e at the bottom in line with teeth a a ato set into the tympan D, and a projecting lug d at the top. Against this guide 0 thepaper to be 7 printed is set. The lug d at the top prevents its being raised, and the teeth e e prevent the screw from turning after the gage is set. In front the fiat bottom B is provided with points I) Z), that run a little beyond the rest of the device and will project under the tympan or sheet. This bottom is hinged to the top by upwardly-projecting ears, through which and the sides of the top runs a rod a, having a spiral spring a in connection therewith to throw the parts together after separation to introduce the tympan, and thus keep the teeth a a" a" fixed therein.
We claim 1 In a printers feed-guide, the top A and bottom B, hinged together, the springrod a a, the top part A being provided with teeth a" a a", formed from the downwardly-projectingsides and front, and the partB being provided with prongs at one end, and the adjusting-screw 0, having the fiat guide 0, provided with the lug d and bottom teeth 6 c, all substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a printers feed-guide, the combination of the spring-actuated top and bottom pieces, the top piece being formed with teeth and the bottom piece being provided with prongs, and a short screw'through the top piece at right angles to the length thereof, one end of which screw is provided with astop or head, substantially as set forth. a
In testimony whereof We affix oursignatures in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH A. BQEHRINGER. FRANK X. MULLER.
